Madonna’s Tour Set Collapses!

OMG, this is just awful. One of the sets that Madonna uses for her Sticky & Sweet tour just collapsed today in France, killing one and injuring 6 people. So far police are still trying to rescue more people who are trapped.

The accident occured in Nice’s Stade Velodrome at 5:15 p.m. local time
(11:15 a.m. EST) during preparations for her next show. Police and fire
officials are closing down the stadium while trying to rescue those
still trapped.

The concert, planned for Sunday, July 19, has been cancelled.

So I am guessing that it collapsed during rehearsals and the person who died was working on the tour….not much info is available so I’ll update more as news comes out.

Update: It was the roof that collapsed while they were working on putting up the set. Maddona has issued a statement regarding the incident:

"I am devastated to have just received this tragic news," the singer
said in a statement Thursday through her spokesperson Liz Rosenberg.
"My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along
with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking
news."

    So sad!

  2. Nicole says:

That’s too bad. In Madonna’s quote, she only mentions people getting hurt, did someone really die? That’s horrible! :(

2nd person has dies in hospital over night.

Charles Prow, a 23-year-old from Headingley in Leeds, died overnight at a hospital in Marseilles.

Technicians had been setting up the stage at the city’s Velodrome stadium when the partially-built roof fell in on Thursday, bringing down a crane.

Footage posted online shows Madonna making an emotional tribute to the technicians at her concert in Italy on Thursday.

“I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to two people who lost their lives today,” she told fans at the Fruili Stadium in Udine.

“It’s a great tragedy to me,” she continued, choking back tears. “I feel so devastated to be in any way associated with anyone’s suffering.

“Let’s all just take a moment to say a prayer for Charles Criscenzo and Charlie Prow. Our hearts go out to their family and loved ones.”

I really question this quote because the accident was at Marseille stadium, NOT in Nice. Although I did read that there was indeed one person killed and 6 injured, but again, it was in Marseille.

You know how those far-away places can be soo geographically challenging! ;-) At least both are in the same region, even if they are in different départements… It’s sad either way, whoever is at fault for the accident.

  9. Jenelle says:

    SO sad

…only for the mentally challenged. “different departments”???? wth are you talking about? They are two different cities in France.

  13. Nanea says:

Seems I know what I’m talking about, unlike you. The départements are Bouches-du-Rhône and Alpes-Maritimes, the région is Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Although what hell has to do with this is beyond me.

  14. elaine123 says:

OK, I will concede…I didn’t know that. But still, the accident was in Marseille, NOT in Nice. Thanks for educating me.
