Christian Bale Keeps Going Missing

Apparently Christian Bale is baffling co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams and others on the set of their movie 'The Fighter.' He reportedly refuses to be seen when he isn't filming.

"You only see him when
it's time for his scenes. Other than that, no one has any idea where he is. He
just goes missing."

Christian is playing crack addict Dicky Eklund, which explains his gaunt appearance.

"Christian has lost almost as
much weight as he did for ‘The Machinist’. He is so gaunt. They
have even thinned his hair - he just looks sickly."

This role must be really important to Chrisitian. After he finished 'The Machinist' he said he would not want to go through an extreme weight loss plan again.

"I wouldn't want to take it to that extreme
again. But it was necessary to lose weight for that role - not as much as I did
- but it was a challenge mentally to see if I was capable of doing such a
thing.

"I know that I can now, so there would need to be a
certain gimmick if I was to do that all over again. But I do like the notion of
seeing how far you can push yourself so I'm very happy that I did that.
Everybody told me that I was risking my health the first time around, so doing
it twice? I'm probably being an idiot."

Or really, really into the role :) I can't imagine doing it, myself. Christian supposedly only ate one apple and a can of tuna a day to lose weight for 'The Machinist.'

If I were living like that, I probably wouldn't want to be around anyone either except when I had to be. More importantly, no one would probably want to be around me in that state!

ETA: 'The Machinist' is a film Christian did in 2004.

He always says that he stays in character the entire time he films. When I saw those on set photos of him, it was really frightening. I don't know that I would risk my health like that just for a role. Scary.
