Have You Seen A&E’s Hoarders?

Oh my goodness. As if I need another thing to do at night? I have to admit – whenever Oprah would go into a hoarder’s house, clean it up and get them straight, I would cry hysterically. It’s such a process, but it’s also very freeing for whoever takes part.

Well, A&E has come up with a new reality show called ‘Hoarders’ and it’s all about people living that life and getting some help.

Full episodes online now.

Jennifer and her husband, Ron, suffer from hoarding and their three kids are growing up with piles of junk, food, and clothing everywhere. Jill has food, in various stages of decay, stuffed among her two freezers and four refrigerators.

Is this something you’d be interested in watching?

    not watching this show.

  2. Jan says:

Just like every other thing, get a hit and then you have to come up with every other take on it possible ( ie Intervention ). How many redecorating shows came on after the first one was a hit. That being said yes I would watch this because I always considered myself messy BUT this makes me look positively perfect in comparison LOL

  3. Nimbus says:

Would get very boring after a while surely….

  4. The Truth says:

Donnaj: Everyone thinks you’re a cunt–especially the ones who don’t tell you so. It could be no other way.

YES! This show is my new guilty pleasure and A&E is amazing! You can’t even begin to understand how sick these people are until you see rotting pumpkins on the floor and the cleanup crew is gagging cause it smells so bad, having to use a snow shovel to get it up and the lady is all.. HOLD ON – lemme get a few seeds cause it was so pretty.. REALLY??! Its ROTTEN and she’s digging through the nastiness for some seeds!

Oh and if its frozen it doesn’t expire. Just so you know – go ahead and eat that 4 year old ricotta cheese, cause its frozen and all! “what’s it gonna do, get sour?!”

I saw the commercial for this last night, I can’t watch stuff like this because it makes me want to throw up. All I keep thinking about is, what is underneath all that garbage? gross.

I watched it on Monday, it was a very interesting show. Gives some perspective on how other people live and the internal struggles they go through. ***annie***

  8. Katie Bee says:

I saw it too and completely agree.

  9. Amy says:

It is not my kind of show. I hate clutter. I also have a weak stomach and couldn’t take the rotting food.

  10. DonnaJ says:

Ok, I have to answer this thread in segments:

    1) “I have to admit – whenever Oprah would go into a hoarder’s house, clean it up and get them straight, I would cry hysterically.” I absolutely do not understand why anyone would cry at this.

    2) “Jill has food, in various stages of decay, stuffed among her two freezers and four refrigerators.” This is not hoarding. This is a total pig and she refuses to take care of herself or her home.

    3) “Is this something you’d be interested in watching?” Only if my life depended on it.

  11. Gisela says:

LOL!! God I love you, seriously you are the Queen of sarcasm. Wait, you and meme are tied for first place.

Is this anything like the old TLC show Clean Sweep? I am always amazed at the stuff that people feel the need to keep in their homes. And I agree, rotting food in the fridge isn’t hoarding…it is just plain gross, and probably the height of laziness.

  13. Anonymous says:

It is nothing like clean sweep. Clean sweep is clutter out of control and dealing with it, but the people don’t have too much of a problem with letting go. They just got overwhelmed and needed help with the clutter. You are wrong about the lady with the rotten food. It was not the height of laziness, and yes it is hoarding. It isn’t just food though that she hoarded. But, you are also correct in that it is gross and grody and it takes a special kind of person to work with people who have these issues. Hoarding often has comorbidities usually another mental illness which makes it more difficult to work with the person who is a hoarder.

  14. CapturingLife says:

I liked shows like Clean Sweep where they just organized clutter and junk. I don’t do grody decaying food and garbage. How is that appealing to watch? Gross me out the door. (pardon me, I’ve been channeling my inner Valley Girl today)

  15. DonnaJ says:

And lets not forget elaine. :O)

  16. darbi4packers says:

Is it weird that I now read the comments just to see what witty things you, DonnaJ and Manimal (hope I got that right) have to say? Oh, there are others, but you three are my fave.

  17. DonnaJ says:

    I think its really sweet…and I like weird. ;O)

  18. elaine123 says:

Why thank you, DonnaJ…taking a bow.

  19. Molly Mae says:

That show is like watching a trainwreck in slow motion! The lady who said expired sour cream wasn’t really expired because it was already sour was totally nuts! She needs some serious therapy and help, because she is very mentally ill. I want to know how she’s still alive after eating so much nasty, decayed, and expired food for all these years. Yucky!

  20. darbi4packers says:

I admit, I like to keep some things “just in case” but nothing like these people! I’ll probably keep it for a year then do a big clean, because I’m weird and like to go on organizing binges. Is there a show for that?
