Becki Newton In Redbook

Becki Newton, the razor-tongued, uber-trendy receptionist at the fictional Mode magazine on ABC’s Ugly Betty is discovering that the life of a shallow bombshell has its perks. In the September issue of REDBOOK, she tries on the season’s most glamorous looks and shares her views on beauty.

On real beauty:

“When I think of the most beautiful women, they’re not supermodels. My mother is 53 and comfortable in her own skin. My mom doesn’t spend hours in front of the mirror or at the gym. She doesn’t deprive herself of anything. It’s ultimate beauty when the inside and the outside match up.”

On playing Amanda:

“I’ve learned there’s nothing wrong with being a little fussy. I used to pride myself on being low-maintenance-I wore it like a badge of honor. I would leave the set with my hair all big and full after the show and feel like I had to immediately throw it up in a ponytail. Now I think jeans, a tee and big hair are a great combination. Glamour is fun! Spending time to get ready isn’t about being fussy: it’s about taking care of myself.”

On working at a fictional fashion magazine:

“Amanda has the best job. She has access to all the clothing, but she doesn’t have to do all the work.”

On beauty trends:

“While I’m sure I’ve left the house looking like a raccoon, it’s better to try and fail than not to have fun with it.”

It’s better to try and fail than not to have fun with it – LOVE THAT QUOTE!
