Carrie Prejean Suing For Religious Discrimination

Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean is now suing Miss California pageant officials for religious discrimination, saying they wanted her out because of her religious beliefs, according to TMZ.

Prejean just filed the suit in L.A. County Superior Court, accusing [Shanna]
Moakler and pageant honcho Keith Lewis of religious discrimination,
defamation, public disclosure of private facts, intentional infliction
of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

In the suit, Carrie claims officials tried to "set up Prejean to have her dismissed as Miss California USA by asking her to do a Playboy photo shoot for $120,000."

Well, you know what they say: the worst press is no press. Do you think Carrie’s suit has merit?

  1. HELLO!!! says:

I am NOT a Christian conservative but I sincerely believe that she was discriminated against because of her beliefs against GAYS! She had every RIGHT to state her beliefs and diss that hag f a g Perez and should sue the drawls off of the pageant!!!

  2. tromba says:

    YAYI,

I’m guessing that you did not finish high school. Hell, maybe you did. Your writing is just awful, just awful. Do you speak English as a first language? Second? Please stop – do not ever write anything for public consumption again. EVER!

  3. Phil says:

Apparently some of you missed the fact that she blew off some of the appearances she was required to make. She was fired for breach of contract…not because she’s a bigot

  4. Anonymous says:

Miss California is supposed to represent ALL Californians, not just the ones that fit her personal beliefs. If she can not do that, she should not have entered the competitions.

  5. Anonymous says:

She didn’t even answer the question well. Miss America is a spokesperson position regardless of her views on marriage she demonstrated that she was simply the wrong woman for the job.Miss America has to be able to intelligently, clearly and concisely articulate her jumbled answer was simply not good enough for a job as a spokesperson.I think she has a right to her opinion. It is unfounded to say this is religious discrimination for one her opinion is not shared by all christians. I for one am a straight Christian and I believe ALL Americans deserve the same rights and every couple regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion deserve to be married legally.

  6. Anonymous says:

Yes, her suit has merit. She has the right to free speech just like everyone on the opposing side does and she was vilified and defamed in the media. I don’t like her and think she’s annoying, but I hope she wins.

  7. Anonymous says:

She has a right to free speech but in a spokesperson position she has to be able to speak WELL. Her suit is without merit just because we are Christians doesn’t mean we don’t have to be qualified.

  8. Anonymous says:

They didn’t fire her because of her religious beliefs or because she answered a question. They fired her because of breach of contract. She refused to perform the duties of the pageant. After repeatedly being told that she needed to fulfill her obligations with the Pageant. She constantly belittled the underlying importance of Miss California USA and put her own agenda on the for front. She declined to go to the Special Olympics because she “didn’t want to”. I’m sorry but as Miss California USA you are required to do public appearances whether you want to or not.

Her suit has no merit. Personally I’ll defend her right to believe what she wants to even though I do not believe it, because as American’s we have that freedom. However as Miss California USA she was not upholding the integrity of the position to which she had won.

The media didn’t vilify her, she caused her own issues with her actions and her words. If the lawsuit doesn’t get thrown out, it will probably be settled for a small sum. Though, I believe it’ll be thrown out or it will be found that the Pageant directors acted in the best interest of the Pageant.

  9. Anonymous says:

she may have the right to free speech but SO DOES EVERYBODY ELSE WHO DISAGREE WITH HER!!. HELLO PEOPLE!!!!! she won’t win….she just wants revenge – she needs to let it go.

  10. Anonymous says:

So, how is that possible? I mean the media portrayed a landslide for Obama and yet he only received about 54% support. I think the gay minority group has about 70-80% of the media behind them. The same media that supports free speech….wait a minute…..did you read anything positive about her? I bet she wins the suit or settles for $$$. Defamation goes beyond breach of contract.

  11. Ladylala says:

    Well said, Yayi.

  12. Annon says:

Whether you agree with her opinions or not, you have to be honest and agree that yes, she was discriminated against. If any other group, race, association went through what she did, there would have been an uproar about discrimination. Let her sue, she has a right to her opinion and that shouldn’t be held against her.

  13. Anonymous says:

When you has to a job and do it bad – you will get fired. It’s just very easy.
She did a bad job not do her obligations – and was fired. She wasn’t fired when she spoke against gay marriage – she was fired after she was a lazy bum.

  14. elaine123 says:

I think that was a smokescreen.

  15. elaine123 says:

How in the world could one woman represent ALL californians???? You can’t be serious.

  16. elaine123 says:

I don’t think this has anything to do with how well she answered the question. It has everything to do with WHAT she said.

  17. elaine123 says:

If you want to rephrase all of that, maybe we’ll get an idea as to what you’re talking about.

  18. goldilockz says:

She needs to sit down and shut her pretty mouth.

  19. Luca says:

by the media and those obnoxious gay rights campaigners (promoting sin, how dare they) sure.

by the pageant. no. you can bet before they fired her they had all their ducks lined up with all the appearances and such that she was supposed to do, her contract stating she knew she had to do whatever they tossed at her, etc. and the proof that she was totally informed of when and where to be and that she willfully didn’t show up.

as for the playboy thing, I wouldn’t be shocked if that was in the pageant contract as well, that one might be called upon to do some tasteful semi-nudity. so she shouldn’t be shocked on that point

  20. Anonymous says:

    What a fu*king stupid piece of sh!t …..
I wish once she gets children (she should not because of her stupidness) she gets a homosexual child……that is the only chance to change her point of view…..wait her fu*king stupid point of view!

  21. I’m just not very good at getting myself out of these situations. Who would have thought that a thing that looks like its 16 and American, would want to talk about MARXISM, FREUD, The insurgency in Sri Lanka, Sarah Palin, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Well, it wasn’t that

  22. Anonymous says:

Enough of this it is silly. This women was in the running for a spokesperson position and she could not intelligently articulate her OWN opinion which makes her unqualified for the job. Watch her answer on youtube she clearly says she is proud to live in a country where people can choose opposite marriage or same sex marriage when she is absolutely against people having the right to that choice. Then she ignored her duties as Miss Ca. to go on a media tour celebrating her opinion on marriage. I live in Ca. she did not show up to scheduled appearances (her job) to push her own political agenda (to stop some Americans from having the same rights other enjoy). We have a right to free speech but as an adult we are also accountable for the words we use. I’m a Christian and I don’t agree with anything she thinks and it is pretty despicable to hide behind your faith when you just were lousy at your job. It’s shameful.

  23. elaine123 says:

With that comment, you should really think twice about who you call “stupid”. Relatively speaking, between the two of you, she’s the smart one.

  24. Anonymous says:

Heads are gonna roll in that Miss California organization. I hope she sues them for every cent they got!

  25. DonnaJ says:

I wonder why Trump is not listed in the suit?

  26. Luca says:

Trump isn’t listed cause she wants to look like a lady by not involving the guy that gave her the second chance. Trouble is that she was fired for blowing that chance due to her contract violations. She had signed a legally binding agreement to do whatever appearances she was told to, and she didn’t. And she agreed not to do anything that wasn’t arranged by the pageant and she did. More than once on each issue.

If these issues weren’t present and numerous she might have something to go on. Also, that she was not fired during the aftermath of her comment and then continued to play games is a point against her.

  27. Anonymous says:

Whether the case has any merit is moot. We now live in a world of guilt by accusation. She is looking for some relevance and her lawyers for a quick settlement and a quick paycheck. This suit will never see a courtroom.

  28. Anonymous says:

Oh what a joke. Give it up already. You were a terrible Miss California. Accept it and move on!

  29. SimplySolitary says:

    Hahah! I agree.

  30. CapturingLife says:

While I didn’t agree with her views on gay marriage, I do think that she was vilified and harassed in the media. And if the pageant people did release things that were confidential, etc, then she should seek justice.

  31. Ariel says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out she signed some release that said anything she submitted through the pageant offices could be used for publicity.

As for being vilified and harassed in the media, was that really the fault of pageant officials? She came up with her response all on her own.

…counting the steps to the door of my heart…

  32. Anonymous says:

Can we sue her for her stupidity?

  33. Phil says:

If she can sue for being fired (because she wasn’t doing her job), then I would think suing her for her stupidity would be justified.
Carrie, you had your 15 minutes of fame, you ignorant bigot…move on

  34. bgduckie_01 says:

    i had forgotten about her….

  35. YAYI says:

I’m pretty sure this has a lot to do with her comment and disagreement on gay marriage. Which sucks! is kindda sad to see people ganging up on her for sticking to what she believe in. Freedom of speach is set to be a great deal in this country, but yet some people are punished and harrassed for speaking their mind. Which i think is so hypocritical of people who are supportive of those who don’t disagree and view them as “fair”. Meanwhile lots of those who dare to express their disagreement are being attack like that. She has all the right to sue whomever she feels has harrassed her for what her beliefs are. Is definitely not ok to do this to someone who is being honest about what their beliefs and values are. I truly hope she wins this sue. I have gay friends and i totally respect and love them for the person that they are other than what their personal/sex preferences may be. But is totally unfair to publicly bash someone for expressing themselves. Not cool!!!. I respect everyone’s opinion on this subject, but i still believe that all the controversy and bad criticism she recieved because of that one particulate answer has a lot to do with her being fired. They just need it an excuse.

Well said, Yayi. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  38. Helen says:

Breach of Contract, somebody should really explain this to the bimbo.

  39. Anonymous says:

What on earth are you talking about? Ignorance is bliss, as they say

  40. elaine123 says:

What “breach of contract”????? Are you referring to the semi-nude pics?

  41. Anonymous says:

Of course her suit has merit. If she wasn’t a Christian defending her beliefs, the whole country would have gone nutty trying to defend her right to her own opinions. Christians are expected to be “tolerant” of everyone and everything, but God forbid a Christian should be afforded the same right.

  42. Nanea says:

Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from responsibility.

  43. YAYI says:

They’re making this claims on how she didn’t make? her contracted appearances, well a court will decide if? that is true or not. She also has the right to make her claims don’t you think??? Companies who discriminate never admit they discriminate. That’s why we have courts, to find out who is at fault, and who is not. I think she’s been very gracious and honest. Personally i feel she was persecuted and lost her crown because she didn’t tell them what they wanted to hear?. Imo they’re full of crap, and this was just an excuse.

  44. elaine123 says:

Yayi, of course that has to do with her comment and disagreement on gay marriage. Having said that, I have to say that I agree with much of what you’ve said here.

  45. DonnaJ says:

Well burst my bubble…I agree with Yayi.

  46. elaine123 says:

    Crack me up….

  47. YAYI says:

Well thank you DJ. Is nice to see some of you agree.

  48. Luca says:

yes for one. when she signed to do the pageant she was told straight up that she needed to fess up any and all semi-nude or nude photos that she’d done. so the pageant could vet if they might be an issue. she didn’t. that was the first issue.

the second was that she disregarded appearances she didn’t want to make despite signing a contract that she understood she had to be there. it was part of the job.

third, part of the job is that you don’t make appearances not arranged by the pageant. which she did.

these are facts and they are unrelated to her opinions and all rights to speak them. and in any job they would get you fired. which happened to her, after a second chance that she didn’t have to receive. something Miss Carrie doesn’t seem to get.

  49. elaine123 says:

    well, alrighty then….good points, thanks.
