Aubrey O'Day Tries To Clean Up Hilter Comment

This post is going to be long because I want you to read the entire story before you form an opinion.
Aubrey O'Day was a guest on Hannity's "Great American Panel (what??) and opened up about brilliant men in our history - specifically Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler.
I met him (Castro) and worked with him when I was in Cuba," she said. "I'm not defending his behavior in many instances, but I do have to say that I will 100 percent agree he's an incredibly brilliant man."
"I'm sure I've met a lot of murderers in life. I'm not condoning [his actions]. [The United States has] supported a lot of murderers. I'm specifically addressing [Watson's] comment suggesting that he is a brilliant man. I'm sure many murderers are brilliant people."
When it was suggested that next O'Day might tell the panel that she thinks that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was also brilliant, she said,
"Listen, I don't condone Hitler one ounce, but yes, he was a brilliant man. Can you guys say that he wasn't? He ran a country and convinced everyone of horrible things."
The news went wild with these quotes. Today, Aubrey took to her personal blog to clear up any misconceptions. Click on the continue reading link below to see what she said.
I am so sad an opinion has become so misconstrued. If you would like to know my opinion in it’s entirety, here you go:
“Murderers and dictators generally are some of the smartest people out there – they just use their brain power for evil purposes. I don’t condone any of their evil behavior, but I was asked about their intellectual firepower…and in my opinion you can’t have a low IQ and wreck that much havoc on the world. What Hitler succeeded in doing, was deplorable… And I hope we never see such an abusive use of power again.”“As I indicated on-air, Fidel Castro has outlived many US presidents. More specifically, Castro has unfortunately lorded over a communist state just 92 miles from the US for the better part of five decades to the significant detriment of the Cuban people. The actions of his tyrannical regime, however, are unquestionably evil and repulsive, and as I repeatedly stated, I could never condone such gut-wrenching behavior. Sean Hannity offered a narrow question directed at Castro’s intellectual acumen, and the scope of my response was similarly narrow.”
Now that you've read the whole thing - how do you feel about Aubrey's stance?

I actually understand what she means, what she was trying to convey was that Hitler was a very brilliant man in order to convince thousands a people, a whole country in his beliefs and insane ideas. I don't think she meant he was brilliant as Einstein or Mother Theresa, or Gandhi. Hitler was brilliant in an insane kind of way. People followed him and supported him, so yes he was brilliantly insane.

I see what you're saying. I think she meant brilliant as in a high IQ.

I understand what she was trying to say- but she was trying to act so smart that she ended up sounding stupid...

I totally agree.....far too often (actually, almost ALWAYS) we define "brilliant" as meaning "good", or "good natured" and the like. It just means intelligent. But regardless, she did make herself look like an idiot. a dumb choice of words on her part. ***annie***

Yup, yup.

I understand what she poorly tried to say, but this is too much of a delicate matter for her to be discussing it.

exactly.

Helen, so, are you saying that people in general should avoid discussing "delicate" matters" or just that stuid people shouldn't because they're unable to express their opinion? I hope it's the latter. I'm curious.

I seriously wonder if women from this generation of Hollywood - aside from women like Natalie Portman and Emily Watson - actually read books about the things they claim to "know" about, or they just read snippets on wikipedia so they can sound smart in interviews? Sad. Young poeple today need to learn how to make an intelligent point instead of trying to shorten their opinions into a twitter sized bite of information. It would certainly save time in having to clarify later on what you were actually trying to say.
Also, if her breasts were pushed up any higher in that picture she'd likely suffocate on them. Gross. - Mandi

The problem there is that their opinions will be shortened into a twitter sized bite of information FOR them, whether their opinion was 130 characters or a 2 page paper.
what a good example!!!she's an idiot!

I also understand what she mean, and in a way it makes sense. The word 'brilliant' does not always have to be used to portray someone in a positive or admirable light.

I think what she said wasn't offensive and shouldn't be offensive to people because it's what is true. Those people are usually the smarter ones, unfortunately they just have an evil bent.

Today is 70 years since Nazi Germany attacked Poland and the WWII began. Perfect day for such a statment, you idiot.
The adjective "brilliant" is always used in a positive connotation. Therefor she either had no idea who A. Hitler was or she doesn't understand the meaning of the word "brilliant".
7255 points
I doubt she knew about the 70 year anniversary. I think she realized exactly what 'brilliant" meant. That's why she's trying so hard (and failing) to explain.
93685 points
yeah i understand what she's trying to say...i agree with gisela.
281795 points
yep - I agree with you and Gisela.
I agree - with what she's "trying" to say.
An imbicile cannot have that much influence or reign/cause that much horror.
However, the very end of her rant was most definately written FOR her.
He was brilliant. There I said it. Hitler was brilliant. And he was a manipulator. And he was cunning. And he was excellent at propoganda. And he was a strong and powerful leader. Oh, and yes, he was a psychotic and evil killer of an entire race of people. Just because a person is evil and does evil things does not mean that you condone those actions by calling him brilliant. He would not have been able to do all that he did he was not good at mind control, propoganda, speeeches, and manipulation and to be good at all that, one has to be rather intelligent. He used his brains for evil instead of good; it happens. She has nothing to apologize for with her statements. The only people who should be apologizing are the politically correct twits who get their panties twisted in a bundle when someone attaches a positive adjective to a hated historic figure. "Oh, you said that Hitler was brilliant.....you must love Hitler!!" Just idiotic morons who cannot understand the context of words and how they are applied.
And people should know what they are talking about.
Who came to the brilliant idea asking her about 20th century dicatators and mass murderes? She forgot to add Pol Pot.
By the way Hitler wasn't responsable for the media propaganda but Goebbells who was Proffesor of German Language.
One should know basic historic facts before giving an opinion. There are enough Neo Nazis who will see this as an oportunity to get publicity.
Yes, all those Neo Nazis out there who were just waiting for Aubrey O'Day to say that Hitler was brilliant. I am sure the Neo Nazis movement was going strong before she made her statements. You claim that people should know their history before they post, well perhaps you should know not to make assinine statements before you post.
7255 points
Anon at 3:19, while I agree in principle that one should know what they're talking about before opening their mouth, you have to keep this in context. We're talking about Aubrey O'Day here...she is no rocket scientist. And if the Neo Nazis want to hang on to her ideologies and quote what she is saying, then that's one group of people who is very short-lived.
Great post and I agree!

Lulume, that was very well written. I agree with you.

I agree with everything you said. And for the record, when Hitler was first in power the entire world embraced his German leadership and he was Man of the Year for Time--or a similar magazine back in those days. It was only after he started killing off the Jews that people started to take back the praise they once lauded on him.

I totally agree with lulume!!!!
She accidentally used the wrong word, and the media loves it... She explained herself but all the media want is headlines.
129675 points
And this surprises you?

ha!
Gisela...your explanation was brilliant!
I find it very hard to believe that she wrote this blog on her own. The statements, grammar and context that she uses is not typical of her other interviews and other blogs. I have a feeling she had this written for her by her PR people.
you can't compare hitler and pol pot to fidel castro!
please people...read a few books about castro.
Obama reminds me of Hitler in the way that he has manages to hypnotize the whole country and especially the youngsters. History tends to repeat itself.
Kind of like how Bush reminds me of Castro, Pol Pot, Napoleon, Hitler and Mussolini combined. The way he used his power as president, hid behind the constitution in order to manipulate and lie; you are correct history does repeat itself.

Only some 4:13...only some.
Wow, I'm amazed at how articulte she is (as well as gorgeous... that photo DAMN!!). I also 'get' what she meant, and I agree. Not saying their actions where acceptable but they where definatly very smart people.

Wow I am SO proud of so many people understanding what she was trying to say. I thought the same thing when I read just the first part of her quote.

i can understand where she's coming from.
hitler was able to convince so many people to follow him and believe his ideas. there has to be some sort of intellect in knowing how to do that.
i just don't think brilliant was the right word. brilliance connotes a positive kind of meaning. maybe intelligent would have been a better word?

There is a fine line between brilliance and insanity. Those two men walked both sides of that line. She made a very valid point, and people are twisting her words.
