Mariah Carey Talks About Her Insecurities

We all have them, but imagine a record company shoving them down your throat during every meeting. Women are critical of themselves enough, we don’t need people confirming our horrid insecurities!

Mariah Carey can remember what she had to deal with when she first started in the industry at 19 – and it wasn’t pretty.

"I remember starting out and being at a record company at 19 and having someone tell me, ‘This is your good side and this is your bad side. Don’t ever let anyone take any pictures of you from that side. You look terrible from that side’, and so on. I created this whole complex, like I didn’t already have enough of a complex.

"I felt very different as a bi-racial person. Growing up where I was, being half-black and half-white, was a weird and difficult thing because I didn’t quite fit in either place and I moved around a lot. So when I went from that to this world it was like, ‘Let’s create an inferiority complex before we make this person go on TV and try to have confidence.’ So it was all about building self-confidence."

Looks like she’s doing alright for herself in the confidence department! No one can wear a mini like Mariah.

Perhaps if U used a REAL pic, instead of a Photoshopped 1, people would take U seriously sweetie! Red lips went out last season… SORRY! U might actually benefit from reading Cosmo to catch up on the latest trends, since your trying so hard to look like a fashion model! LOL

I had NO idea she was half black/half white…she completely looks white to me. I’m still having a hard time believing it even after she said it herself.

  3. Anonymous says:

    ROTFLMAO!!!

  4. Anonymous says:

Interesting. I always thought she looked Biracial even when I didn’t know she was.

  5. Gisela too lazy to log in said it and? says:

Since you’re sending people to pick up Cosmo for the latest trends, go and pick up a dictionary you stupid cvnt.

  6. DonnaJ says:

Oh, you mean like your real pic? And I don’t follow trends; I set them.

  7. it’s no wonder many so-called stars and celebrities like Mariah Carey have become lost, insecure, and confused because so many people are pulling their strings in marketing and in public relations they become a bottom-line widget.

they’re not left with enough space to discover themselves on their own terms. and that’s unfortunately what comes with signing big contracts that bind artists to do what eventually the number crunchers want to hear.

the pressures of financial success trickles down a slow and painful wrecking mess that eventually robs us of our souls. we need to evolve better.

She is obsessed, with- Blacks and thugs, come on MC grow up and act like a lady!!!

  9. Anonymous says:

    Monarcdiva is clearly black

  10. Monarcdiva says:

Actually I’m not Black, I’m white, sorry. So that “clearly” makes U a racist pig, which would fully explain your HATRED towards Mariah! And to the other illiterate chics- U shouldn’t call people c**ts, it really only shows the rest of us- that your a Girl who’s “Obsessed” w/that part of the female anatomy! LOL and to America’s Next Top Wannabe Model- sorry Doll, but your “Go-See” just fell flat due to your Goatee! The only trends U set are teaching young girls how to hate & how to use fake pics in your portfolio! I’m guessing that’s why we haven’t seen U on any runways or covers! Just a thought…

  11. MCisMIMI says:

Yeah, it won’t be easy for me, if I were facing those situation.

  12. galaxy girl says:

I totally agree with monarcdiva. Mariah is a legend and she wasnt born with that status, she earned it! I also dont see what race has to do with this but she is beautiful all round. The race thing was an issue 40 years back but times have changed

  13. Chelle says:

She does look great for her age.

  14. tapakah says:

Вот именно поэтому и не хочется иногда двигаться вперёд!

  15. На таких громких заголовках и шумихе можно делать и не такие успехи :)

  16. randinotobsessed says:

i don’t particularly care for her but good for her finding confidence in herself.

    rf.

  17. Gisela says:

She refuses to take pictures from one side of her face; I can’t remember what side though. If someone were to tell me some crap like that “this is your bad side and this is your good side” I would show them my buttocks and ask them which ass cheek looks good the left one or the right one?

  18. Riviera says:

LMAO!!!!! OMG that is SO funny!!! As for her “bad side”, it’s really obvious how she doesn’t show it in her early videos. It’s really weird.

  19. KissKiss says:

That’s funny! I actually do remember pictures of her where she has her head in a really weird angle, so we could all see her good side. Though I still think she looks like a hotdog

  20. babydre says:

    gisela girl, your too funny

  21. CapturingLife says:

Does she ALWAYS need to play that bi-racial card. We’re living in a society that is trying to see past race and she tosses it on the table every 5 minutes.

  22. Anonymous says:

Why would people need to see “past” race? There’s nothing wrong with seeing race. When people say that it sounds like race is a disability or something. Anyway maybe Mariah didn’t know any other biracial families when she was growing up. This was 40 years ago.

  23. Ariel says:

I don’t see her playing that card. She’s acknowledging what (who?) she is, and good for her for doing so. It’s tiring to hear people talk about how they “don’t see” color and everyone “looks the same” to them. If that’s really true for anyone, they’re either blind or mentally deficient.

  24. Anonymous says:

I heard her father is Venezuelan black. So wouldn’t she be Hispanic?

  25. bgduckie_01 says:

that really sucks especially if you’re 19. i guess that’s the world they have to live in for wanting to be a celebrity. pretty sad.

  26. katgib13 says:

Didn’t she marry Tommy when she was around 19? Wasn’t he the one producing her music? If so….that sucks twice as much…your own husband ragging on the way you look…lol

  27. bgduckie_01 says:

oh that’s true. i dont know at what age she married him but i know she was young when she married tommy.

  28. megegers says:

she should bow out gracefully and just stay out of the spotlight.

  29. Ariel says:

It would be a shame if she did, considering she can actually sing.

  30. Monarcdiva says:

1st of all- Your all a bunch of uneducated HATERS who need 2 grow the fuck up! Mariah’s father was Venezuelan & Black- Do your fucking homework kids before writing retarded shit! 2nd- Maybe in this day & age, the Country seems to be moving away from Racism a little, but back when Mariah was a teenager & due to the region where she grew up- If u were mixed, u didn’t fit in, period. So because that is a huge part of her past- she is fully entitled to bring up the “Race Card” whenever she chooses! She’s earned that right! 3rd- No matter what your opinions may be of her- you’ll just never be able to sell as many records or have as many #1′s as her in your lifetimes! So get over your HATRED, get over yourselves, & come back when you’ve actually achieved some sort of success, like she has. Then maybe you’ll have a leg to stand on & your opinions will actually hold some credibility & intelligence!

Perhaps if you gain more of an education you wont seem like such a moron when you post.

  32. Gisela too lazy to log in said it and? says:

Monarcdiva you are a 24/7 PMS bitch…shut up and go change your tampon it reeks of your blood clot.

  33. Ariel says:

According to IMDB, she was 24 when they were married.
