Christina Applegate Misses Her Old Breasts

Christina Applegate is still dealing with some of the aftermath of her breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy. For one thing, she confided to Women's Health magazine, she misses her old breasts.

"It's really hard because they just aren't the same – and I had really good ones," Applegate, 37, says in the October issue of Women's Health. "If you have boobs you don't like, you can go and choose the size you want, and then get a brand new present. But it's different [when it’s not your choice]."

Yet Christina is still able to look on the bright side:

"I hold on to the fact that I don't have to wear a bra, which is great!"

Now that is nothing to sneeze at :) Christina's ordeal with breast cancer has also pushed her into activism by forming her own foundation, Right Action for Women, which focuses on testing and early detection of breast cancer.

"I became really passionate about people who are at high risk having the same opportunity to get this sort of testing," says Applegate, who learned she had an early stage of breast cancer following an MRI. "Some insurance companies consider the tests exploratory, which is just ridiculous. I mean, it saved my life!"

This is a great cause because early detection is so key in the successful treatment of breast cancer! It sounds like Christina is taking an incredibly difficult experience and making it a positive one. Good for her!

My hats off to her...
I had a lump detected last fall, had my first mammogram and ultrasound at age 33...Thank God all is well...

But I did have a brief moment where I was like, "what will I do if I loose them?" It sounds vain, but I get where she's coming from.

I don't think it sounds vain. Its a part of your body and I can't imagine anyone that wouldn't be upset at the prospect of losing a part of their body. At least you're keeping it real :o)

she is so awesome. i love her. it's not vain Keli, it's normal. We are women and a big part of our sexuality is our breasts. do not feel bad about thinking that way....My mom died of cancer and the hardest thing for her was losing her hair! everyone deals with trauma in different ways.

i'm so glad she is doing well and is able to bring a voice to the subject. however, i am saddened to have recently seen her on Perez Hilton smoking. cancer is such a terrible thing. i just wish she didn't still smoke in light of everything she has been though already. i hope to see more from her in the future :)

She is so brave! A woman's breasts almost define her as a woman. I would be devastated if I needed a double mastectomy. But she's handling it with a positive attitude and even humor! Amazing.

I agree - I am 32 and because of family history, started having mammograms early. I ended up having an MRI breast scan that detected a lump that did turn out to be benign, but my insurance company has decided not to pay for all of it because it is "unproven technology". Looks like Christina just proved it for them, I guess I better let them know.
