Drew Barrymore Still Has Mother Issues

I really admire Drew Barrymore for how far she’s come; I remember when she was the adorable kid on ‘E.T.’ and then her trips to rehab when she was barely a teenager! Now she’s a successful movie actress and producer, but she admitted to InStyle that she still has “mother issues.”

“I am okay with my dad, but my mom and I have yet to work it out,” Barrymore, 34, says of her mother, Jaid, in the October issue of InStyle, out Friday. “I don’t talk about it because … how do you talk about something you’re confused about?’

Although Drew may not have resolved her issues with her mother, she said she uses them for her work, such as for her role in ‘Grey Gardens’ and for her new movie, ‘Whip It.’ Drew also said she may use issues with another family member for a new role she is taking on, although she is occasionally ready to leave her Hollywood life behind.

“Maybe I’ll just travel as a tourist and leave this whole business behind to wander,” she says. “I love my life. I really do. But there are moments I battle with it. Some days I want nothing more than a brilliant mask so I could look like someone else and go wander the streets and be free. I’m very peeved Halloween only comes once a year.”

I think we all have mother issues to some degree, but I can’t imagine having them be so public! Yet she’s done a great job overcoming a challenging adolescence, hasn’t she?
