Has Lily Allen Quit The Music Industry?

Lily Allen made an announcement on her blog that she has not renewed her contract. The singer titled the post ‘It’s Not Alright’ and originally started discussing how she hates when people share music files on the internet, but then Lily revealed she has no plans to release new songs or tour again.

“Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.

“The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material.”

The 24-year-old star is now focusing on her appearance in a London theatre production called ‘Reasons to be Pretty’, which follows a group of working-class people who are bored with their lives.

It is not the first time Lily has voiced her desire to give up her singing career.

Earlier this month, she said:

“I’m not going record and tour again for quite a while.

“I finish up my dates in March and I’ll be ready to do something else. I’ve been on the road for four years and I’ve given my voice a real run for its money. I’m struggling, so I’m going to try something new.

“The play is about themes close to my heart, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls.”

Will you miss Lily’s music?

I’ve heard a few of her songs, but I don’t think I’ll miss it if she never comes out with anything new. I’m guessing in a few years, she try again.

Lily Allen was up front from the beginning. This…(for many reasons) was a “RIDE” for the “MONEY”. Writing her opinion on MY Space that it wasn’t about her, it was about music. She owns the copyrights to her songs, & the right to use songs written by other people & to post those songs as samples. She never conveyed that being a pop star was going to last 10 years or more. Instead she told people (with a get real attitude) that she had or has no intention of lasting, in a business that eats people alive (talented or not) just for the fun of it. Lily Allen has had her unfair share of press, beatings, which doesn’t mean she came out polished, but she did fight her way through some tough battles. And she’s dispelled a lot of rumors. Meanwhile she cashed in on something… herself, and that’s not dumb at all.
