Fame Was Hard On Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado had a breakdown when she first became famous. The ‘Maneater’ singer admits she initially struggled to cope with the pressures of fame and would spend a great deal of time alone, even though it seemed she was enjoying her life.

“Fame took me by surprise and I ended up having a breakdown. It was too much too soon. After two years of intense touring and partying I’d spend hours alone in my LA home, just staring at the floor. I felt like a fraud, believing that people liked me for my image and not my music.”

Although she has recovered, Nelly – who is married to sound engineer Demacio Castellon and has a six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship – admits she would like to spend more time by herself but her lifestyle doesn’t allow it.

She told Britain’s Live! magazine:

“There are times when I long to be a hermit living in a cottage. I often crave that sort of solitude. But having a husband and a daughter tends to get in the way of that.”

I can’t imagine fame being easy, especially when you are on the A list. There is certainly a price to pay.

Um, maybe you shouldn’t have gotten married or had a child if you thought they’d get in the way of your wants and needs.

I don’t think she sounds ungrateful, unlike a lot of twats do in interviews. I think everyone once in a while complains about their profession, even people in “regular” jobs.

There are a lot of people that can’t handle fame, but still love their craft. Its a hard road to walk, despite the fact that most people only see their paychecks, photo-ops & perks and not the actual person. BTW, she has gorgeous eyes.

my best friend saw her at a mall once and she said she looks sooo normal you wouldn’t even guess it was her – very plain (she looks like a regular mom). my friend was going to ask for her autograph but she chicken out. she does looks so much better with dark hair.

It sounds like she kind of resents having a husband and kid – like it’s their fault she can’t be left alone as much as she wants. It was her choice!

back in the days when she first starts she was not loved for her image but for her music.
however today…. crap music while trying to be sexy… now you can tell she’s a fraud.

geez, her music was great at first. “i’m like a bird” and others stuff were really nice and not another bitch dancing half naked. and you could tell it was her and she was calling the shot. now she’s just a timbaland puppet
