DJ AM's Death Ruled Accidental

DJ AM's Death Ruled Accidental

The New York City Medical Examiner has determined that DJ AM's (legal name, Adam Goldstein) death was accidental, according to TMZ.

The M.E. says the cause of death is "acute intoxication" due to the combined effects of cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone (Vicodin), Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole (a drug used to cut cocaine with).

The manner of death is listed as "accident (substance abuse)."

You may or may not have heard that MTV has decided to go ahead and air DJ AM's show, 'Gone Too Far,' where DJ AM stages interventions for people suffering from addictions, this October as was planned before his untimely death. This tragedy will surely make the tone of the show even more grave.

At least his family and friends know what happened. I hope that gives them some comfort.

It's sad that he staged interventions when he clearly needed one himself.

Was he doing the interventions after he'd fallen off the wagon, though? I was under the impression that he had stopped doing drugs and stuff in the years preceding the plane accident. In that case, he'd be the right person to stage an intervention. I think it's better to have it done by someone who has been there than people who have no idea.

my thoughts exactly after reading how many drugs he was taking. its no accident to keep swallowing pills after pills then cocaine, all addicts know the risk they taking.

It's sad because the media continues to make fun of people like Lindsay and Amy Winehouse and the others who struggle with an addiction (supposedly) but nobody will reach out and try to help them. Instead, they are used as punchlines to jokes..until one of them dies - then their peers cry "how tragic".

Sadly, it's only news once they after die.

sorry capturinglife....they chose this life, it was their decision...nobody forces them...stop blaming other people for their stupidity. people like amy winehouse and lindsay are well aware what drugs can do to them and if they want help, they will have to get it themselves....nobody can reach out and help them. if they don't want people to make fun of them then they need to smarten up.

Clearly you are unfamiliar with addiction. Nobody CHOOSES it.

anonymous anonymous said:

One can;t change the fact that they are predisposed to addiction, BUT one can certainly choose to either avoid getting trapped in it and, if they do, they certainly can choose to find a way out.

noone can help an addict but themselves, any rehab center will tell you that

That's like saying no one chooses prison. Well, yes, no one would choose prison but you do choose to engage in a behavior that will surely get you there...quick, fast and in a hurry! You dont become an addict over night.......we need to start taking repsonsibility for our actions and stop playing the victim.....

I think a lot of the people with unkind comments have no understanding of addiction. It's not something you can flip a switch on, like saying, "Oh, I'm not going to buy that dress today." It's not like addicts do a drug while thinking, "Hey, let's see what it's like to be an addict!" On really bigger scale, I think it's like someone with a bad metabolism who thinks indulging in a cupcake isn't so bad, and suddenly finds themselves with an empty box that formerly housed a baker's dozen.

'accident' -- yeah right. dude barricaded the door to his room and ingested everything in sight. that's NOT an accident.

Way to go on his second chance in life.
Any addiction is a choice, no one puts cigarettes, alcohol or anything in my mouth. The important part of all this is to stop at the starting point because at this point in this century, specially in this country, we all know that drugs are silent murders of people lives, our own and whoever is left around us. There are many of help lines, rehab centers available out there but unfortunately you can't force any one into it because "it may cause additional pain".
Life puts many paths in front of us and they are all a choices, and those choices are in 2 simple groups, good or bad.

Having never survived a plane crash where I've known, much less witnessed, loved ones dying, I'm not in a position to criticize what someone else does to cope. Sure, returning to drugs wasn't the best decision, but I doubt many people really know how much trauma he's been through. It's easy enough to condemn someone when we haven't had to live their life.

At least it was not ruled a possible homicide! I guess DJ AM had better people around him than Anna Nicole Smith. But then I suppose when you are a shameless gold-digger you innately attract shady characters like Howard K. Stern.

If I'm understanding the above, it was ruled an accident because the evidence probably doesn't support that he intended to kill himself.

I feel sad for him and his family, though. I can't imagine how he must have felt if he turned to drugs.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

was he looking for some super-duper high then? He had a previous attempt at suicide a few years ago, how could they rule this an accident? Someone with tremendous survivors guilt, and a history of addiction...naw, it was an accident. Like a pp said, he barricaded the friggin door! he knew what he was doing.
