Sara Paxton Upset About 'The Beautiful Life' Cancellation

Sara Paxton Upset About 'The Beautiful Life' Cancellation

I feel bad for that entire cast - there was a good possibility that this show could have taken off! Too bad the CW network cut the cord after only 2 episodes.

Sara Paxton says everyone is still SHOCKED.

We’re so shocked! I definitely think it’s unfair. The CW didn’t give our show a chance to succeed or fail. We had some amazing episodes coming up that we were all proud of, and the story lines were about to get really interesting, so we’re sad that no one will ever even see those! It’s unbelievable the way that they told us—we were all in the middle of work. I was sitting in the hair and makeup chair, and I’m getting my hair done just like a normal Friday—we were all excited for Friday. And all of a sudden, they got the call, and the producers had to make an announcement on set that we were done—that we were over! And I was sitting there in shock. I couldn’t believe that in the middle of work, the rug was pulled out beneath our feet. Immediately, I run over to Corbin's [Bleu] room, and I’m like, 'oh my God, oh my God!' I was freaking out! And Corbin was shocked. Everyone was just devastated. It was horrible. Terrible.

So what does Sara think caused the issue? Lack of marketing.

We were worried because our show didn’t get as much marketing as other shows. Everywhere you go in New York City, you see Melrose Place posters everywhere—I see Vampire Diaries everywhere. And CW, they just didn’t put any money into advertising for our show whatsoever. It was up to the cast to keep the show going, so we went to every red carpet, we talked about the show, we publicized, we did twitter, we did everything we could possibly do to get the word out about the show. We thought it was really worth it because we care about the show—we care about each other and we wanted to make it work. But if people don’t know that the show even exists, they’re not going to watch it.

The actress can't believe the 5 episodes that are ALREADY FILMED will not air.

It’s a slap in the face! It’s almost like we were part of this family and now suddenly we’re dropped. I couldn’t even call the CW because they probably have my number on their caller ID and they’re like, 'no don’t pick up, don’t pick up.' It’s crazy. And oh my God, episodes three, four and five were going to be amazing. That’s what really sucks. You’ve got to have time to let a show get its legs and find an audience, especially when they’re putting zero dollars into advertising. And we were slowly going in that direction. Everyday I was getting emails from Japan and Brazil and the U.K from people who were buying the show on iTunes and were going nuts over it. And if they had just given it more time to really catch a fan base I think it could’ve been huge for the CW. I really think they missed out, and I really think they’re missing out on a huge opportunity for themselves.

And what about the fact that most of the actors moved from LA to NY without a paycheck? Click on the continue reading link below to find out how they are all coping with the situation.

Are you kidding me? [Laughs]. We thought we were going to be here until December. Literally we packed up our lives from Los Angeles to New York. I spent two months and thousands of dollars without a paycheck moving to NY. And now they just say, 'oh, peace, you’re done?' We all signed 6 month leases, and now we all have to figure out how to get out of our leases, and I have to figure out how to get all my furniture back. I don’t know what to do with this NY furniture. We’re kind of stranded.

What do you think about The CW just canceling the show like this? I was watching it. Was it riveting TV - no. But was it worth another week to get into the storyline - yes. I was personally very surprised.

Does anyone else think his hand looks a little awkward or something in that picture? The placement just seems weird...

Welcome to television, where subpar ratings kill shows far too quickly.

Although I didn't find the show as gripping from the start as gossip girl or one three hill (don't get me started on Melrose Place, it's so blah), it is insane to cancel a TV show after just 2 episodes. Like she says in the interview, you need to find your fan base.

And TV shows nowadays rely on a good marketing strategy. Just look at the marketing campaign for Gossip Girl at the start of season 2. It was brilliant and it paid off!

I can't believe they won't play the 5 episodes that are completed - what a waste of money. I wasn't watching the show but I can imagine people who tuned in are a little irked.

I know she's very upset and disappointed but in this fickle industry you really don't know when you're going to get another job unless you're an A list celebrity. If I were her I would keep my pretty little mouth shut and stop blabbing to the media about how upset she is at CW it's things like this that stop phone calls from coming in...

Well I watched the first 2 episodes and was not planning to watch the third. It sucks for them that they got cancelled. They should just go ahead and air the ones they already filmed though for crying out loud!

Yeah I agree with her - the CW really didn't give their show a chance to succeed or fail. And without marketing nothing would ever take off. People have to first know that it exists!

I feel bad that The CW pulled the plug on that show but sara was a fantastic actress. They oughta put her on "Gossip Girl" as a series regular.

I am SO disappointed. In Iceland we have only 3 television channels (yes for real!) and on of them had bought the show. They had even begun to advertise it in between shows. Which shows there was a lot of interest in the show. I completely agree with Sara, this is unfair especially because of the adveritising dollars, or lack thereof that was put into the show. And I was SO excited to see Mischa back on the screen!

i watched the first 2 episodes. while i dont think they were all that interesting, the cast was likable (obviously beautiful) and i would've watched at least 3 more episodes to see if the show got interesting. you need time to develop characters, plots and garner a fan base (as sara paxton said). i was shocked and disappointed. i wish they would at least air the remaining 5. instead, they are playing re-runs of melrose. anyone see ashley simpson's "acting"? that is enough to sink melrose.

I was so disappointed this past Wednesday to watch ANTM and expect TBL to be on afterwards only to find they'd replaced it with Melrose Place (which I don't care for at all). I really liked the show and am saddened to see it go so quickly. I like Sara Paxton, I think she's adorable and you couldn't go wrong with Corbin either. They really should have given this show more of a chance!

It is beyond lamentable that this blog condones and is silent about the gay-bashing that was portrayed on the first episode of this series, and censors any critique of it here. It is laudable that "no racial, sexual or homophobic slurs will be tolerated." What is not laudable is just the opposite: also stifling comment that condemns gratuitous depictions of physical violence against someone because of their sexual orientation. This blog does both which makes its cautionary caveat below both empty and meaningless...
