American Music Awards Nominates Michael Jackson 5 Times
Michael Jackson has been nominated for five American Music Awards. The pop legend – who died on June 25 – is in the running to be named Artist of the Year at the prestigious event and will be up against Taylor Swift, Eminem, Kings of Leon and Lady Gaga.
The ‘Thriller’ singer is also nominated for Favorite Male Artist in both the Pop or Rock and the Soul/Rhythm and Blues categories, and Favorite Album for his ‘Number Ones’ Albums in both of the categories.
Country singer Taylor Swift leads the list with six nominations, while Eminem received four.
The nominees were selected through a measurement combining sales and radio airplay and the winners are determined by an online vote of fans. They will be announced at a Los Angeles ceremony on November 22.

I TOTALLY agree with you Capturinglife! He's up for Artist of the Year, not to mention the other awards! For what? With all respect to Michael and his legacy; if he hadn't died, he wouldn't be on the list.
So you can sea how unfair is this world. If he hadn't died his old albums wouldn't have been sold like that, some kind of millions like todays new albums.. And he died, he sold albums, AMA thought that he would be on the list because they look the numbers, how many album sold etc. And years ago he took 5 prizes from AMA. So he can do it again. We'll vote, you'll vote and everybody will se if he deserves this award or not. And if you watch his This Is It Movie, you see how professional how perfect he is. Madonna and Michael can race against each other but Michael and Taylor Swift, oh god think again how could you.. no.

I agree, too. But they mentioned that they get the nominees from sales and airplay, both of which were boosted heavily when MJ died.
Something else I don't get is this whole Kings of Leon thing. They opened for U2 when I saw them a few years ago and we thought they sucked bad. Maybe they've improved and we should give them another go...

really? I love Kings of Leon! Maybe I won't go see them live now, though. LOL! I don't like all of their stuff but "Soft" is seriously my favorite nasty song. My husband had to listen to it like 25 times before he "got it". rofl
Well his CDs topped the charts after his death so he deserves the nominations IMO.

If he hadn't passes away, he wouldn't have had any radio play this year and would not have been nominated. The only reason he topped the radio play lists is because he died and everyone did tributes to him by playing his music. He doesn't deserve this award, living or not.

Okay, I'm starting to feel old. Who is Keri Hilson? I would have thought if she is being nominated for favorite female artist I would have at least heard of her. I also don't know the bands Day26 or Mary Mary for what it's worth.

I hate the 'oh you're dead' award too.
Why can't they just give Michael Jackson a tribute during the awards night rather than the nomination? It's illogical for him to be nominated just because he's dead. Give him a nice tribute and that'll be fine.
