Jessica Simpson Wonders Why People Have To Be Mean To Be Funny?

In case you hadn’t heard, Fox ran a cartoon during an NFL game making fun of Jessica Simpson, with Dallas Cowboys players calling her fat. Jessica responded on twitter.

i will never understand why people attack for a laugh. own your beauty and don’t listen to the judgement.

I actually think this is a good question. And why in the world is the NFL going after the ex-girlfriend of one of their players (Tony Romo)? Fox and Burger King (who was in on the cartoon) have already apologized.

“Our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended,” a statement read.

Sometimes you have to wonder what people are thinking. Did you see the skit? What did you think of it?

It so not cool and not necessary to be intentionally cruel to someone

  2. bgduckie_01 says:

i didnt see it but that’s sad they keep on making fun of her weight.

I’m so tired of people being mean to this girl leave her alone!

  4. dieselchicklett says:

I think she’s right. Its completely uncalled for.

  5. Helen says:

well, she also wonders if she’s eating tuna or chicken, so…

  6. lara jane says:

I make fun of people all the time, but not on a national level.

The best thing about the apology from Burger King there is NO mention of it in thier press releases. Wanna a good laugh, go to thier CORPORATE RESPONSIBILTY page- something they apparently have not visted in a while.

I think Jessica should sue the pants of the companies for defamation of character (on a national level). Trust me, they will be truely sorry when they are paying out the nose for it.

If she is dumb and makes a fool of herself that’s her problem. But the last I checked she is still a human being who has feelings and being mocked all over the country is lame and hurtful. Besides, it’s not like she is overweight like Kelly Clarkson (who by the way doesn’t deserve to be mocked either). Jessica has a normal body she is not obese for pete’s sake, no wonder why girls are either too thin or too fat these days, media plays a huge part on making girls feel bad about their bodies! So sick of it!

How come most of my comments are considered as spams or “inappropriate” ? Because I say something the blogger doesn’t agree with? Talk about freedom of speech…

  14. Ha says:

Rita – I have a feeling there might be a character limit or something for their horrible spam blocker. If that’s the case, Vera might do well to post that somewhere. It’s getting really annoying.

    who watches Fox???

  16. bgduckie_01 says:

    lol

  17. Katie Bee says:

I wouldn’t take it personally. I’ve made posts that didn’t express a strong personal view and they were blocked by spam filters as well. I guess it’s a glitch or something.

  18. Katie Bee says:

I find it completely laughable that Burger King was in on a cartoon making fun of a public figure’s weight. Burger King, one of the nation’s leading fast food chains. They make billions of dollars contributing to the obesity of millions of Americans. And they have the AUDACITY to make fun of Jessica Simpson for her weight?!? What a bunch of slimebag hypocrites!

  19. Lose That Girl says:

She has a point. It’s fun to make fun but there is a limit as to how far one should go before it just becomes cruel.

  20. Nemiha says:

    hahaha!
    I didn’t even see it

  21. Chelle says:

I saw it on E! or something and it was unnecessary.

  22. Anonymous says:

    Cause it’s funnier than way.

  23. Anonymous says:

Didn’t see it – can someone give a synopsis of the commercial?

  24. switchstance5 says:

The NFL is comprise of guys – of COURSE they didn’t think about it.

  25. DonnaJ says:

    That is not cool.

  26. kimmytoo says:

they should be ashamed of themselves.

  27. Anonymous says:

I guess BK and FOX don’t feel like they offended Jessica though. Assholes. BK sucks anyway

  28. Anonymous says:

What gets me is that Jessica gets all up in arms about someone joking about her weight/appearance yet she herself has been in many commercials poking fun of “lack of intelligence”. I guess beautify over brains? Great message Jess.

  29. KissKiss says:

    I agree

  30. CapturingLife says:

They are so gutless – they can’t even apologize to HER. It’s just a general “if we offended ANYONE”. Jerks!

  31. maiah912 says:

Really! Maybe they didn’t actually want to apologize, but thought they needed to make a blanket statement. Totally lame.

  32. Anonymous says:

@1:00PM its a completely different story when you yourself agree to poke fun at your character flaw or something. Its a different story when a national network uses you and your weight as a cheap way to get laughs on tv. I think it is pathetic what they did.

  33. Anonymous says:

I think that poster actually made a very good point. I can’t really see her poking fun at her weight and appearance.
besides, nobody ever cares when she is made fun of for her intellectual ability or lack thereof (not saying she’s dumb, but often portrayed as such), but whenever she’s criticized for her appearance everyone gets all worked up over how cruel it is, which of course it is, but so is the dumb-thing. anyway, she’s so offended about the weight criticism, but does think it funny to showcase her “dumbness”. so as long as she doesn’t poke fun at her weight issues, she sends a message.

  34. Ha says:

That poster completely missed the point. I agree completely. There was no reason for them to be deliberately hurtful.

  35. DomesticGoddess says:

I agree. I think she looks gorgeous, and a better role model to younger woman than those who try to forcefeed a size 0 mentality!

  36. Ha says:

Again, you’re missing the point. She plays along with the dumb persona and has a sense of humor and self-deprecation about it (hence the commercials). To choose someone as a target and publicly humiliate them over something as superficial and potentially, personally-sensitive as her appearance was unnecessary, cruel and hurtful. If she’d done commercials or jokes about her real or imagined weight gain (I personally think she looks beautiful), then I can see why “anonymous” questions her problem with this. But she didn’t.

  37. Ha says:

    You’re still missing the point.

  38. elaine123 says:

Sorry Ha, I think you’re the one here who has clearly missed the point. Best to zip it and save yourself from the embarrassment.

  39. Anonymous says:

    good point
