Padma Lakshmi Says Pregnancy Is No Reason To Pig Out

Padma Lakshmi Says Pregnancy Is No Reason To Pig Out

Part of Padma Lakshmi's job is to eat, as host of 'Top Chef,' but she's not using her pregnancy as a rationale to overeat.

"I eat the same, just more often. Everything from movie theater nachos to spinach and apple salad. Everything. I’m not eating so much more. You only need 300 more calories. It’s not a reason to pig out."

Padma also said that although she hasn't decided on a name for her baby, she's not going to get creative when she does.

"I just want to see how the baby looks when it comes, and then I'll have some ideas," she explained. "The name will have to do with my family. I don't think it's going to be called 'Pomegranate' or 'Atlanta.'"

Good for you, Padma, for remembering that your child will actually have to grow up with that name :)

Another thing Padma isn't doing is a whole lot of shopping.

"I'm Indian," she [said]. "So we don't buy a whole bunch of stuff before the baby is born, because we want the baby to be born first, 'Not the cart before the horse.'"

Every culture is different in how they handle the birth of a baby, but I can't imagine having to go out and buy a bunch of things with a newborn! Well, I guess it all works out in the end. Especially with the internet- LOL.

Padma also declined to identify the father of her baby. Well, I hope she has a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby!

She is former model, not necessarily a supermodel, but a successful one. She is the host of Top Chef. She used to be married to Salman Rushdi, the super rich Iranian who wrote some book that incensed the radical Muslims so much that they put a fatwa on his ass. Now she's married to or dating some equally rich repulsive-looking guy.

Salman Rushdie was born in Bombay, India

I have to disagree, pregnancy is the perfect reason to pig out.

I totally agree with Padma. There's no reason to blow up and eat like a pig. I'm pregnant and my doctor said the same thing to me on my last visit. The biggest mistake that most woman make is to use pregnancy as an excuse to pig out. One can eat healthy and watch what we put in our bodies, eat normal, exercise and still have a super healthy baby. Is just plain ridiculous to use a pregnancy to look like a beach ball and get away with it. If anything it would be the perfect time to eat healthier than ever.

true , we should eat healtier( unfortunatly we crave none healthy snacks) but still it's the only time we can eat all we want but not feel guilty..so just enjoy food and don't worry about getting bigger you'll loose the extra pounds anyway :)

I love Top Chef and Padma and have suspected she was pg for a while now, so I am glad it was made official! I think it is hysterical she said she was not going to name her kid after a fruit or a place - so many celebs give their kids terrible names and thankfully it seems like she will not.

women that pig out when pregnant are the ones that still carry "the baby weight" years later after having the baby. its ridiculous for a woman to gain 50+lbs when all they are carrying is a 7lb baby. its healthy to gain 25-40lbs when pregnant any more than that is just unnecessary and will eventually cause depression, high blood pressure and all the problems that come with obesity and being fat.

I agree. Don't forget diabetes. It's the worse thing you want to give to your child.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Yeah im Indian too and the reason we dont buy too much stuff before the baby is born is because we're always scared somethings gonna happen..like a miscarriage u know? I guess ppl are scared its gonna jinx the pregnancy.

There is a similar superstition in the UK about not having baby stuff in your house before baba is born. Its so common that baby stuff shops will help out - the place we got our pram from kept it for us until our daughter arrived.

She is beautiful, but yes she does look arrogant. That dress she wore to the Emmys - middle thumbnail - that red thing she has attached to the hip is hideous!

I don't understand the whole idea of waiting to meet your child before you give it a name. Guess what? That baby is gonna change! Some kids even go through different hair & eye colors. It's ridiculous to base a name upon looks when you don't know whether they'll "look" the same in 3 months or 3 years or 30. Lame.
