Katharine McPhee chatted with E! Daily 10 to discuss her new video, her new hair and what her new album will sound like. One of the things Katharine shares is that her new ‘do has given her a different sense of creativity.
“I think about what I want to wear a little bit differently than I did with the long brown hair. I got sort of complacent with the long brown hair, whereas with this I’m like ‘hmmm what today can I be creative with?’”
She also shared that some people still don’t recognize her with the new blonde locks.
“I’ve literally gone up to some people I’ve known my whole life and I’m like hi, and it takes them like five seconds to recognize me.”
And the opposite sex isn’t noticing her as much as she’d hoped!
“I thought the men would check me out more. I don’t know.”
She was inspired by music videos of the 90s for her new video for the song “Had it All”.
“I kind of wanted to go back to some of the music videos from the 90s where music videos didn’t really have so much of a specific story. Even though it definitely has a story and a message, but sort of more like an artistic visual concept – to leave it up to the audience to decide where this girl is at this moment in time in this vacant desert singing this song.”
Katharine’s new album, set to release on January 5, 2010, is a very different sound than her first.
“I definitely feel like I’ve grown up a little bit and I’ve gotten to really explore myself musically. It’s called ‘Unbroken.’ It’s totally different. It’s much more of an organic kind of lush, full sound than my first record.”

Nice to see she’s finally gotten rid of her hair extensions. The blonde isn’t for her though. Too bad she has never gone anywhere since AI, hear she is doing concerts in Walmart parking lots and her highlight of her publicity for her new album will be sitting on a float at the Thanksgiving Day parade waving.

That shade of blonde looks horrible on her. There are other shades of blonde that would have been better suited for her.

I would marry her a few years ago–in fact, based on the dude she chose I might have had a shot. I prefer her casual and her natural look. Just like Kelly C. Why are these uber talented girls going the fake blonde or fake anything route. Turn off.
I don’t think the drastic change helps to brand her. People don’t recognize her and in Hollyweird that isn’t good.
it sounds a bit superficial. i mean it took her to change her hair to make her more ‘creative’? those creative juices should’ve been flowing out of her regardless.
I think she looks cute on matter the color of her hair. I just adore her.
