Reese Witherspoon Misses Being Around Her Family
Reese Witherspoon is missing her family. The ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’ actress - who was born in Louisiana, raised in Tennessee and now lives in Los Angeles - always thought she would settle down in her hometown and live near her parents and older brother.
“Sometimes it’s really difficult for me, being far away from home and living in Los Angeles. I never imagined that my children wouldn’t grow up next door to my brother’s children - or my mom and dad wouldn’t constantly be around.”
Reese - who has 10-year-old Ava and Deacon, five, with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe - also revealed her homesickness has led her to establish a big group of friends who had a similar upbringing to her.
“At least I have a lot of southern friends in Los Angeles - I gravitate toward them.”
Reese should go home more often - she has the resources. Whenever the kids have a few days off from school, she should fly down to her parents. I bet she would really benefit from those short trips.

I've had to move far from my family on many occasions and it was tough, but after work was through, I high-tailed it right back to NYC.

Easier said then done. Acting is not a 9-5 job.
i dont think she is complaining about not being able to afford the flights, but sometimes life takes in unexpected directions and that can be difficult. I live a full ocean away from my family because of the career that I chose, and even if I could fly home very weekend it wouldn't be the same as living next door to them!

Arent most acting jobs on location anyway? Why cant she have her base in the south and travel for her movies. Johnny Deep seems to manage coming from France to shoot his movies. Unless you are on a weekly sitcom shooting in LA why do they need to live there?

You have to remember that she has split custody with Ryan who is a very active father. It's not like she can move the kids to TN just because she misses her extended family; she has Ryan's relationship with the kids to think about. Plus, she may not be able to legally do that w/o his permission depending on the terms of their custody agreement.

I know where she's coming from, though. We live in Michigan and my family is well over 800 miles away. Sometimes it is kind of strange to be so far away, but we try to visit when we can.

My family and friends are 2000 miles away. With my son in school, we don't have the time (or money, frankly) to fly out 2 or 3 times a year like we used to. I'm sure Reese has to hang around because of Ryan, otherwise she'd probably move back home.
Please stay in LA---we don't want you back here, Reese! She's not as nice as everyone thinks she is.
I have always lived far away from my family and just fly home for Holidays. I prefer it that way.
