Leona Lewis and her electrician boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa started dating when the singer was 17 years old and before she found fame. Now that she’s in the spotlight she’s been receiving some flack about dating a guy who’s an electrician. When asked about people’s reactions to their romance, Leona defended their relationship and admitted she’s a bit upset about the snide remarks.
“It does make me angry. Because he’s a great person. And it doesn’t matter what you do in life, what your job is, where you come from.”
That is SO true. I think it’s great that Leona has stayed with Al-Chamaa even after shooting to fame.
“This is real life, it isn’t make believe. For people to think that you should leave someone because, all of a sudden, you’re a singer and you have opportunities. I feel very sorry for them.”
To help keep herself grounded Leona surrounds herself with people that knew her before she became famous. In fact, she still lives in the same neighborhood!
“All my friends I’ve known since I was really little. It’s not that I don’t let new people in,” she says in the interview, “but I do feel safe with people that really know me, who know who I am.”

I think what she said about this being real life and not make-believe says it all. There are so many stars who live this rediculous, over-indulgent life and it does nothing but continuously isolate them. Leona’s choices have allowed her to be happy, balanced, as well as successful. Good for her.

My friend, who is a doctor, married a certified plumber (commercial), he makes more than her. I believe he will garner 6 figures this year. The past couple of years he was making about $80K.

What the hell is wrong with working as an electrician? Stupid people thinking white-collared jobs are more prestigeous. I like what she says here. I would like to smack the people who think she shouldn’t date an electrician.
My husband is an electrician full time (at a hospital) and a firefighter part time. He makes enough money to allow me to be a stay at home mom. We have three kids and while we aren’t rich, we do pay our bills and support our children. It’s an honorable profession and it sucks that she has to defend her boyfriend. At least the man has a job.

And sidenote: people need to stop being ignorant about professions, because a lot of electricians and truck drivers make just as much, if not more, money than people with “glamorous” jobs. (not that a person’s dignity it should change even if they made minimum wage!)
