Madonna Planting A Miracle Tree

Madonna and Lourdes were in Lilongwe, Malawi to break ground on a new girls’ academy she is building there. The academy is being called a “gift” to the country where she adopted 2 of her children. It’s said that the school will be modeled after Oprah’s academy in South Africa.

“The school will help girls from vulnerable backgrounds to move forward. They will use the principles of spirituality for kids,” said the singer

“The logical project was to build a school that will create future women leaders, doctors and surgeons,” Madonna said.

Madonna planted a Moringa tree, also known as the “miracle tree” for its cure of many diseases, at the construction site. The academy is expected to start in 2012.

I could use a miracle tree in my yard – if it would sprout money. LOL! On a serious note, that’s a wonderful gift she’s given to the young girls in that community. It’s so great for Lourdes to see her mom doing these amazing things for others.

I haven’t been to that particular country, but I have been to Kenya and Tanzania. All I can say is that education is hard to come by and you’re very lucky if your folks can afford it. Women/girls in particular tend not to be a priority to educate. I’m really glad that Madonna (and Oprah) is doing this!

Lourdes is such a pretty girl!

I think it’s great that she’s doing this. Whatever her motivation. I also think Lourdes is growing up to see helping others is the way to live… she seems to show up at a lot of the charity things Madonna does. That’s excellent.

Why did she try to plant a tree in heels and some sort of dress? I admire what she is trying to do though.

  5. DonnaJ says:

Wasn’t her opening a girls school part of her adoption agreement?

  6. Chelle says:

    Good for her.

I think it’s so strange that the audience is so far back, and there is this little orange rope. You think she would have a child help her dig the hole.

I’m so glad a celeb has found out about this miracle plant. I have been singing about the wonders of African Moringa for years. Kudos Madonna!! Keep changing the world.

  17. maiah912 says:

I was wondering the same thing! I would not have chosen those at all because I don’t think they work well in the dirt, but what do I know?

  18. Helen says:

I hope she gets better teachers!

  19. C. says:

She’s still helping lots of girls that would otherwise have no future.

  20. lara jane says:

…cuz Oprah’s turned out so well?

On a purely superficial level, those sunglasses do NOT look good on her and that outfit makes her look like a grandma. Whether she donated her money to a school for girls for publicity or not, glad she did it. Those girls need all the help they can get.
