Minnie Driver Talks About Being A Single Mom

Minnie Driver says being a single mother is like an “insane earthquake”.

The British actress and singer - who has always refused to name her son’s father – is amazed at how much her life has changed since she gave birth to 13-month-old Henry, but is now used to putting him first.

“If he’s sleeping I’m trying to sleep and when you’re breast feeding you’re the milk machine.

“There’s no time to pick up the guitar, much less go for a walk or have a beer. The first year of Henry’s life has been just an insane earthquake for me.”

The 39-year-old star – who is preparing to start work on a new album – says she always planned to be an older mom because her movie and music commitments were as fulfilling to her as raising a family. She added to Parade magazine:

“I waited a long time to have children because I had this career that was kind of like my kid, it required as much nurturing.

“There’s no amount of hassle that could be bigger than my love of Henry.”

The ‘Motherhood’ star has sought advice on raising Henry from an internet support group, but admits her schedule is so hectic she scarcely has the time to use the resource properly.

"I use the site called 'Mamapedia' that's amazing, where you can ask questions and mothers across America can answer, so you can get maybe ten answers and it's kind of a cool resource. But sitting down and reading about somebody else's tough experiences of being a mother, you're suddenly like, 'My God, I've got a kid and I don't have time to read about this. I've got to go do it."

I never heard of that site! I have to check it out. When I was pregnant with both of my children, I was a member of high risk pregnancy support groups and they were my lifesaver. It really helped to talk to other people who were hospitalized and understood what I was going through. Did you join online groups when you were expecting?

I used babycenter but couldn't handle all the crazy people on the site. People get so worked up on issues such as "breastfeeding vs. bottle", "disposable diapers vs. cloth diapers", "circumcision vs. non-circumcision", etc. They would get so emotional and aggressive over the topic for absolutely nothing. Lots of crazies on the internet!

So your saying you had a high risk pregnancy the first time so you went back n did it again? You are a disgustingly selfish person. Obviously NOTHING mattered to you except being able to say 'I have 2 kids blah blah blah'. Getting pregnant after having a healthy child thru a high risk pregnancy just shows how delusional and selfish you are. Shame on you that you felt the need to put your babies at risk TWO TIMES. Gross.

To Anon 8:25, I feel like becoming a natural parent in general is a very selfish act. You never do it "for" the child. You do it because you want a child.

I used to be on iVillage back when my Henry was born 9 years ago, but it was too much to keep up with.

Its very selfish and unnecessary to subject a child to a high risk pregnancy. Especially after she was blessed enough the first time to have a healthy baby. This is why I cannot fathom women even though I am one, the amount of selfishness that harbors in women is scary. There is something called NATURAL SELECTION and guess what natural selection DOES NOT involve being on bed rest for 8 months of your pregnancy. All that means is that YOU SHOULD NOT BE HAVING A KID. For someone who is always preaching how 'nice' they are in the gossip world it makes me ill to see how NOT NICE they truly are.

Its just that every woman thinks her and her husband are something special and their kids are the most amazing things ever. Thats not true, and when I hear of women having high risk pregnancy and doing it AGAIN it makes me pissed. Tunnel vision with no regard for the rest of the world.

Regard for the rest of the world? WTF are you talking about? Whatever Vera or anyone else decides to do with their body is their choice. It shouldn't affect you... and if it does, you have some serious issues.

I have never heard of 'Mamapedia' before either. I liked babycenter just so I get get the update on each week and how my son was growing. My friend who is currently pregnant uses a site where they compare her growing baby to food each week, which is kind of neat to see.

Didn't realise having a beer and breastfeeding could both be mentioned in one sentence like this!
