Parents In An Uproar Over Upcoming 'Gossip Girl' Episode

An upcoming episode of Gossip Girl is causing quite a stir. A group called The Parents Television Council (PTC) is asking the CW to preempt the episode. All of the controversy is being caused by a rumored scene involving a threesome. It's not being said which cast members are involved in the racy storyline but Michelle Trachtenberg says:
“[It’s] worth waiting for,” Michelle, who plays “Gossip Girl” troublemaker Georgina Sparks, told MTV News earlier this month.
The PTC group wrote a letter to the CW president, Dawn Ostroff, imploring her to consider not airing the episode.
“To include a storyline like this on a program that is expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers is reckless and irresponsible. We are asking each CW Network affiliate to use their common sense and preempt this episode,”
I'm sure the controversy will help to boost the ratings, which have been dipping. So, my guess is that the letter will fall on deaf ears at the network. Do you think the "threesome" will become the new "girl on girl" kiss as far as trying to stir up some publicity?
You can read the full letter to the network here.

Like teens don't know about threesomes. To me, they are not appealing at all. Not my cup of tea what so ever.

im sure its nothing new to teens now a days but i do think gossip girl can be a little to much for teens. gossip girl and other teen shows have too much sex going on. i guess its the new century.
i still like gossip girl though. i really like what jessica szohr is wearing.

Yeah, I think teens these days don't think anything of threesomes. I've still never watched the show though.

i agree, teens these days know a lot more than you think they do, its not like a 3some is a new idea to them. but if parents are that upset about it, just don't let your kids watch it! don't take the show away from us adults who like it

Really unnecessary story line for a teen audience especially. Knowing that it exists and watching it being enacted are two different things. What happened to teaching values and morals instead of sexual positions?
Well said.

I agree. And another thing, parents need to be more involved in what their children are watching. I don't care if my son is 9 or 19, while he's living in my house I am responsible for him, and that includes making sure what he sees and hears is in line with our values. He'll get enough of the junk outside our house, with friends & school.

Exactly, Lara Jane. These parents need to spend less times on television councils and more time monitoring what their own children are watching.

Morals and values don't get you an audience during November sweeps. I still say that if you don't like what is on the screen turn the channel, cancel the cable, or turn it off.

I think its sad if they are using this story line to improve ratings, but don't think that its an irresponsible subject, it's not like teenagers arn't faced with issues like these.
So parents didnt write a letter when Kim Kardashian (who became famous for a sex tape and a playboy spread, technically making her a porn star, attended the Nickolodean awards), when Chris Brown was to attend the awards after beating up Rhianna but this they have a problem with? Let's be real people, it's TV, they're not going to get graphic or anything. Just give the audience an idea of what goes on for drama.
I hope the parents who wrote this letter arent the same type of parents who purchase grand theft auto for their teenage boys given the amount of sexual innuendo there.
The characters on Gossip Girl are in college anyway. It's not like they're 14 year olds in junior high.

LOL!!! the huge amount of Underage drinking doesnt bother anyone, but a threesome does? give me a break

I'm 24 and watch this. But I don't think my parents would've allowed me to watch this when I was a teenager. I think this a show for 20+ audience. When you are 15, 16, 18 yrs old you just want to do what everyone else is doing. I have a cousin who is 14, she asked me if I had a boyfriend I said no, and then she's like «oh so you just like to hook-up? that's cool». She thinks that's cool because that's what she sees on tv and hears her gfs talk about. The way this kids are growing up... Most of them are going to be sluts.

pretty sad and scary.

One of my friend's cousin's goes to a ritzy private school in Manhattan, from the stories I hear, Gossip Girl isn't too far from the truth. So I guess the "outrage" is over parents not wanting to believe that this is what actually happens.

It's more for an older/grown crowd not the tweens. BUT that is why they moved it to 9 o'clock but the parents need to be parents also.
What kind of adults sit around and watch t.v. shows about teenagers? Pathetic much???

It's just another play on the Brittney Spears song "3"_which is mind numbingly repetitive_. They want ratings and a copycat theme is a way to get them. It's not on HBO, it's not like it’s going to be full on porn. It’s a television show; if you don’t like the content just turn it off.

this show is about teens, but it really is a more "adult" show. how about instead of trying to get it taken off the air maybe try being a parent and teaching your kid morals yourself? maybe talking to your kids about not watching shows like these if you feel so strongly about them? just a thought.
Noop, Why parents involving in Children business..... Kids learns themselves as they grow.
