Valerie Bertinelli Shares Her Exercise Secrets

Now that Valerie Bertinelli has the exercise video 'Losing It and Keeping Fit' coming out, she's sharing her exercise secrets. And the best part is that she says her routine doesn't require gym equipment or even weights: it can be done in your own home! (That's my kind of exercise program :)

[Christopher] Lane [Valerie's trainer] stresses that Valerie’s workout routine was really "back to basics," adding that he had the star doing "step ups on the coffee table."

"Your body is your own best tool!" the star trainer said. "You don't need to have weights, you don't need fancy equipment. You can just do a lot of squats."

This is what Valerie had to say about the exercise program her trainer designed:

"He came up with a program that was so simple. Not easy, but simple," said the Jenny Craig spokesmodel... "It still takes a lot to do, but we need to tell everybody, because anybody can do this. We did it in my living room."

Valerie even credits her trainer with turning her into a runner!

"He said he's going to make her a runner, and I was like 'yeah right.' The first twenty minutes I hate, I hate!" says Bertinelli, who lost 40 pounds on Jenny Craig. "And then once the endorphins kick in, it's OK … and he had me running a half marathon."

Talk about a 180 degree turn-around! Are you planning on checking out Valerie's new video?

Not going to the gym does sound enticing, but I prefer to exercise with a buddy. Obviously it's been a quite a while since that's happened.

My husband got one a few weeks ago for his birthday so he can play Tiger Woods Golf but I've been using it a lot after work and it's quite a workout. It really gets your heart rate up and you do sweat (or at least I do, like a pig). So yes, I think it's effective and it's fun.

Everyone works out differently. I also hate running but I make myself do it from time to time to change things up. My husband bought the 10 minute trainer series last year and it was the best work out we have ever done with the best results. It is quick (you match up a series of 10 minute videos - I usually do 2-3), and we don't get sick of the routines because there is a nice variety. No matter what I would rather stay in my cozy bed than wake up for my morning workout...it's the motivation that I find the hardest!

If you were a celeb and getting paid to work out and lose weight, that'd be AWESOME motivation.
