Britney Spears’ First Australian Concert Doesn’t Go Over Too Well

Apparently, they really don’t like lip-synching in Australia. According to Radar Online, “hundreds of fans” started leaving about three songs into Britney Spears’ first Australian concert in Perth.

We are really big Britney fans, but it was crap,” Josh Blee told local reporters. “She has let us down. Added Amanda Hawlet, who drove two hours to Perth’s Burswood Dome, “I want my money back or I want her to sing properly. It cost me half a week’s wage….it was a waste.”

The Australian government has already requested a disclaimer on the concert tickets explaining that Britney is lip-synching during her performance.

I didn’t realize lip-synching during a live performance was so unusual! I thought most performers did it at least for some of the show. Do you think performers who don’t sing live should charge less for the tickets?

Agreed! she’s a very good dancer that happens to sing like crap and sell her music like insane.

  2. briannealc says:

I thought that everybody and their dog knew that she doesn’t sing live, if you want to see a live performance, don’t buy a ticket to her show it’s that easy. Go see Pink, or Gwen or ofcourse go to a rock show…you know who is FANTASTIC live is Train, their lead singer is awesome, he’s like Mick Jagger only not a thousand years old!

  3. switchstance5 says:

I think that artists shouldn’t lip synch during their sets at all, but I thought it was pretty common that Britney Spears doesn’t sing at all.

  4. ashkam says:

what is the point of paying money to see someone lip-synch? the reason people go to concerts is to have a unique experience of the songs they’ve already heard recorded.

  5. audrey says:

I Knew when I took my daughter to see Britney in concert during her first tour, when Hit Me Baby One More Time was a big hit that she wasn’t singing live. I was actually outraged then, and told my daughter I wouldn’t ever take her back to see Britney again because she was lip syncing. We’ve been to a few rock concerts together, like Paul McCartney, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. No lip syncing required because they have something Britney doesn’t….a little thing called talent.

  6. lara jane says:

I don’t see how anyone can complain about this.

#1 Everyone knows she doesn’t sing live at her concerts.

#2 Why would you want her to? LOL

  7. velcrodots says:

I’ve never been to a concert where there was lip synching. It’s just a cop out. The only person I could excuse it from would have been MJ because a) we all know he can sing and b) when you went to his shows you went to see his dancing too, and you can’t dance like him and sing at the same time or else you can’t breathe.

What an absolute lie, I saw Britney on Saturday night and she was amazing. She isn’t standing there just singing along, it’s a whole performance. I didn’t see anyone walk out.

Who cares if she lip syncs? She sung a few songs and you could tell but she does NOT stop moving on stage. She is a performer.

Would you pay $200 to see Britney stand there and sing in one spot or pay $200 to see a HUGE show when she doesn’t stop moving?

    Ahhhh show please.

  9. xy mom says:

I know!! Seriously, with Spears you are paying for the entertainment factor, not musicianship!

  10. bitemebitch says:

I REALLY wish she would just fade away into obscurity and we could forget she ever existed!!

  11. Anonymous says:

    My dog knew.

  12. Anonymous says:

    A disclaimer should suffice.

  13. alishababe says:

I think with all of the dancing she does, it must be hard to catch your breath enough to sing. As long as her performance is good, It shouldnt matter if shes live or not. We all know she doesnt have the greatest voice anyway.

  14. BoN says:

Well Duhhh if your gonna lip sync Im guessing umnnn no it aint gonna fly over so well.

  15. DonnaJ says:

    Amen!

  16. DonnaJ says:

    Me too.

  17. DonnaJ says:

    I’m so glad I’m a metal head.

  18. maiah912 says:

Was this the first time she’s toured in Australia? I really don’t understand why this is such a big issue if everyone is accustomed to how she “sings”.

  19. Vedder says:

When the hell has Britney EVER sold out a Stadium??? Moron

  20. bgduckie_01 says:

i prefer a live performance as well.

  21. Awsome! Wonderful article.

This is not the first time she has done so..I don’t understand why it is such a big deal. If these are so-called Britney fans, then they should know that she lip synchs. Everyone (even non-fans) knows she lip synchs and if you’re willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for the ticket, you should know she doesn’t sing live…so what is the friggin problem?

  23. origami grub says:

    Sold out in Perth, Moron.

That’s why there was two shows.

  24. origami grub says:

If MJ came and lip synced everyone would hate him for it. But now he is dead he is the greatest. So lame.

  25. misschristina says:

I’ve been to two Britney concerts, and I don’t mind that she lipsyncs. While her dancing isn’t what it used to be, she’s really putting on a show. There are a few performers that lipsync-MJ did, Cher, Madonna, so I don’t see it as a big deal, I’m thoroughly entertained when I see her show!
She sells out more stadiums than most performers, so it’s not a problem for lots of people!

  26. bia says:

It wasn’t just about the lip-syncing.

  28. Kaitx says:

In fairness, it’s well documented that she doesn’t sing live. A friend of mine flew to see her in London after spending £75 on the ticket, and the day of the concert they reduced the tickets to £3 because no one would buy the really expensive tickets. She said it was just a show – that it was the same as putting on a britney CD just with dancers. I like her, but I’d never pay to see her “live”

  29. great post as usual .. thanks .. you just gave me a few more ideas to play with

  30. I just clicked over from a similar web-site and figured I would check things out. Like what I see so now I’m following you. Look forward to checking out your some of your posts later on.

  31. loungelizzard67 says:

uhhhh yeah… they should charge way less, lots of performers back in the day always gave live performances… tom petty, dio , areosmith , rolling stones……

  32. Anonymous says:

To me a concert means a live performance, otherwise what’s the point??Just watch the videos! But it’s well-known that Brtiney can’t sing live, these people must have known beforehand.

  33. Anonymous says:

as far as i know, she’s the only person that lipsynch the entire show….i can’t think of any other artist that does. she doesn’t even entertain or dance….so that’s a cop out excuse.

  34. Linda123 says:

Vera what concerts do you attend to think lipsynching is the norm? I’ve been to concerts by Christina Aguilera and Beyonce and even they sing 99% of the time. Britney is the only act that I can think of who lipsynchs 99% of the time. That being said, I don’t know what’s going on with Australia to not know Britney doesn’t sing live. It has been common knowledge for years.

  35. dieselchicklett says:

    Britney is a horrible singer live–they should’ve known better…

  36. Anonymous says:

    I though everybody know she can’t sing.She is a performer not a singer ( or dancer :P ).
That’s why I prefer rock music, it’s hard for a rock band to lip-synch during the concert, you can always hear a difference between live concert and fake singing.

  37. Vedder says:

Thank you molly_2!! Anyone want to see a real rock non lip synching performance?? Go to You Tube and type in “Pearl Jam Unplugged–Even Flow”

  38. Katie Bee says:

    Amen!

  39. Anonymous says:

    RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE! omg

  40. Anonymous says:

I have a live version of Pearl Jam singing “Crazy Mary” …at the end of it he says “orgasmic right?”
    Could not be said better.

  41. DonnaJ says:

    Here, here!

  42. molly_2 says:

The whole point in going to a concert is to experience a live performance and if it’s well done you can have the time of your life. Think U2, Pearl Jam or even RATM. I still get goosebumps when I think of a Pearl Jam concert I went to years ago. Eddie Vedder was singing a 10-minute version of “Alive” late at night and everyone around me was absolutely still. You don’t get goosebumps from lipsync.

  43. Anonymous says:

if the people who bought the tickets didn’t realize that she has been lip syching since she first started her career then they are the idiots.

  44. Vedder says:

“I didn’t realize lip-synching during a live performance was so unusual!” –HOW OLD ARE YOU, 14?? I guess if you are that age you never saw the great rock and live concerts and festivals of the 80′s and 90′s!! REAL TALENT–…
