John Travolta has thanked fans for helping him cope with the death of his son.
The actor – whose eldest child Jett died after suffering a seizure on holiday in the Bahamas in January aged 16 – was astonished by the messages of support he, wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella, nine, received from well-wishers after the tragedy.
“I just want to take one moment to thank each and every one of you throughout this country, throughout the world for all your support and all your love for our family. Thank you very much.”
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ star is throwing himself into a new hobby to help cope with his grief – playing tennis late at night with his staff. He explained to Ellen DeGeneres:
“I play at midnight. Kind of vampire style. The house manager and the house maintenance person, they both live my hours, so … at midnight we go to the local tennis court.”
It’s like we can’t get away from vampires these days – even in celebrity quotes. ![]()
In all seriousness, I am happy John has finally gotten to a place where he can start talking about this tragic loss. The process of healing is a long one. My thoughts are always with this family.

late night tennis?
It’s unnatural, what they’ve been through. Good to hear they’re surviving.
I’m glad they seem to be out and talking more. That’s just another step in the healing process.
Can you dig it?
I knew that cha could.
LOL DonnaJ-I wonder how many will get that?
Honestly, I’m surprised they are talking about it in public. I guess in their position, they will always be asked about their son’s death, but would any of us ever really consider asking about this situtation of someone that we weren’t very close too? I know some things come with the job (i.e. papparazzi), but I do feel sorry that they walk around and everyone knows about their grief and suffering. They really can’t get away and be anonymous when they probably desperately need to be.
I can’t believe how big their daughter is. I remember seeing pictures of her as a toddler not so long ago.
Really, of all the Hollywood actors out there, I think John Travolta seems like he’s the most decent. Can’t imagine what John and his family had to go through with the public death of his kid and the trial thing.
;o)
Midnight tennis, Awesome!!!! Glad he is doing ok
Good to see him back in the game.
its good to see him and see that they’re doing better after that tragic loss.
