The Hollywood Reporter is honoring ‘Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria Parker this evening by naming her Philanthropist of the Year. They will hold a private reception in her honor.

“I’ve never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent,” THR publisher Eric Mika said. “Eva’s efforts on behalf of the causes near and dear to her are Herculean. She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organizations.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eva is the national spokesperson for Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer), a nonprofit organization for latino children diagnosed with cancer and their families. Eva also founded the organization Eva’s Heroes in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, which provides an after-school program that includes children with developmental disabilities.

It’s great to see a celebrity give back to the community. Congratulations, Eva!

That is the most laudable thing- to help sick and disable people, and especially children.

How wonderful she does it on her own dime and doesn’t use her children to sell their pictures.

I wish more wealthy people would help find cures and treatments for terrible diseases such as cancer, and to overcome disabilities.

Hats off to you, Eva, I had no idea, wich makes it even better- since it means it truely is GIVING as opposed to a PR move that it’s not even clear who is helped by it.

With all do respect to buying some books and notebooks to children in Iraq (that now has a surplus and can their own children notebooks), that is nothing close to saving the life of a sick child, or making life bearable for a disabled child.

    Thank you Eve!
