Are The ‘True Blood’ Male Leads Competing For Air Time?

According to Betty Confidential, the answer would be: yes. Sources tell Betty that ‘True Blood’ star Alexander Skarsgard wants more screen time than Stephen Moyer. Although Stephen is considered the lead, Alexander reportedly thought he would get more to do when the audience had such a positive response to his character, Eric.

Now that he’s dating Evan Rachel Wood in real life, he is said to want their characters to become the next “super couple” on ‘True Blood.’

“He wants to be the next Stephen and Anna. But Rachel’s character is only recurring and she’s a villain. And fans don’t favor her character like they do Sookie.”

Alexander reportedly has even gone so far as to ask showrunner Alan Ball to show him scripts for season three (after feeling like his character got a bit sidelined last season), but Alan declined.

There’s another issue, but I’ll put that under the break since it contains a major spoiler about the third season, but if you’re interested in reading why else Alexander is struggling for screen time, then click on the continue reading link below.

Another stumbling block for Alexander is the studio execs, who apparently like Stephen very much.

“The execs love Stephen. He’s easy to work with, can handle any scene given to him, he rarely complains, and [SPOILER ALERT!!!!] he didn’t even blink an eye when producers told him they’d be splitting him up with [his real-life fiancé] Anna.”

And although Alexander’s and Anna Paquin’s characters do become closer in the books, Alan told TV Squad restricting himself to what happened in the novels.

Ultimately, it sounds like Stephen doesn’t need to be seriously worried just yet.

“Producers love Alexander and know he’s one of the most popular of the men on the show, even more so than Ryan Kwanten [who plays Jason]. But the truth is, the show is the most important thing and they are prepared to put Alex in his place, if necessary, when the show resumes filming.”

So, ‘True Blood’ fans, which is it for you: Team Bill or Team Eric?

THE RUMOR IS FALSE!!!!!! HERE IS THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFO ABOUT THIS ISSUE WHICH IS A NO-ISSUE!!!!

  2. KatieFrog says:

More Eric! Although I don’t believe that Alexander has been complaining…unlike Bill, he is working on other stuff in real life.

  3. Blue says:

I’m all for seeing much much more of Eric… but as much as Sookie started to annoy the crap out of me, I like her with Bill. I didn’t read the books so I don’t know how it plays out, but why can’t we keep her with Bill and still find time to up Eric’s screentime?

  4. EricaLy says:

I love the chemistry that Sookie and Eric have in the books and want to see more of it in the show! Team Eric!!

  5. Anonymous says:

This story is totally made up bullshit. And if you take the books into account Eric’s screentime has to increase. Eric is a major character from book 3 and forwards while the character of Bill almost disappears.

  6. lara jane says:

I want to be Sookie in an Eric & Bill sandwich.

  7. Anonymous says:

I’ve lost all respect for Alexander after he hooked up with Evan Rachel Wood. She’s a silly ho.

  8. Amber says:

I’m sorry but people mention the books but do they not remember them! Eric and Sookie sort of hook up when he loses his memory and Bill admits to Sookie that he was only with her in the beginning because the Queen made him! So team Eric all the way….keep it closer to the books!

  9. pbartteacher says:

While I am Team Eric all the way, your article doesn’t ring true. This doesn’t sound like anything that Alexander would have said or done. I am sorry that such shoty reporting is being allowed to be posted. Perhaps better writing next time.

    I agree with anonymous!

  11. ls393002 says:

When did he start dating Evan Rachel Wood. I feel like I really missed something there.

  12. Corvi says:

Gotta wonder…..who benefits from dreaming up such utter bullsh*t.
Increased traffic for the site with the “creative” writing?
    An overly invested Moyer fan?
Please don’t drag a good show with fine actors into a stupid soup of made up gossip and fake drama.
Let’s not make Alex want to flee our shores for his more sensible homeland.
    sheeesh

A to the MEN! I want both. I want both damn it! :)

  14. LT says:

He isn’t dating her. It’s just a rumor that occasionally circulates like the Kate Bosworth one, though he was pretty affectionate with Bosworth at the Scream Awards.

Glad to hear the story is bs.

  15. audrey says:

    LOL–you dirty girl!

  16. Anonymous says:

Team Eric, I want more Eric.
    Less Bill, he’s so boring.

  17. Anonymous says:

team eric! there’s something about him!

i’m yet to read the books…..but I will eventually.

I cant wait for the next season!

  18. Anonymous says:

I want more Eric too, but Mr. Skarsgard would never do that. he is a professional, not a Hollywood wannabe. don´t spread this silly rumors please.

  19. Anonymous says:

I don’t think this is true. Alan Ball does favor Bill if you read or listen to any of his interviews. I’m not a fan of Eric from the books or the show. He’s the typical pretty boy and they made him look like a member of a boy band when they cut his hair.

  20. Anonymous says:

i dont choose they both rock, and both are equal. bill is awsume and eric is too. i love them both.

CANT WAIT FOR SEASON 3!! when is it exauly coming out on t.v or stores???
    xoxoox :)

  21. yes ,i agree with you

  22. Anonymous says:

    TEAM BILL!

  23. iamtrue2bill says:

I am definitely team Bill, but we shouldn’t have to choose. There should be plenty of screen time for both. I think the tension between Bill and Eric makes for great drama, so one doesn’t have to “win”. at least not for now. The show wouldn’t have enough heart if Bill were not in it, and it wouldn’t have enough intrigue if Eric were not in it. And now we’ll have Alcide! I have not read the books, and I won’t until at least another season completes. It’s just too much fun not to know!

  24. Artemisia says:

I’m all for MORE Eric (and less Bill)!

  25. dyinggiraffe says:

eric is 50,000,000x better than bill.

  26. Anonymous says:

way MORE BILL than eric! Don’t like eric AT ALL!

  27. Morgan says:

I’m for ERIC and SOOKIE !

Obviously Alexander didn’t read the books.

  28. DonnaJ says:

I have to go with Bill as well.

  29. OutInLeftField says:

Oh man, this is a hard one. Book-wise I’m totally Team Eric cause Bill in the books is an idiot and I’m so over book Bill. However, Bill in the show is awesome, but not quite as awesome as Eric so Vampire Eric FTW.

  30. TarynOnTheSpot says:

I agree! I wonder if they will reveal Bill’s doucheness in the show. I can’t wait to see when the show gets to Alcide!

  31. BTL says:

No doubt, Eric is way way hotter!
    I love his character.
But to be honest, I loved the first season. But that last season was terrible. I won’t be watching the next season.
I’m only going to be watching clips of Eric and Pam.
Sookie is beginning to get on my nerves. I don’t even want Eric with her.
I want a spinoff with Eric.

  32. bgduckie_01 says:

i feel like im the only one who hasn’t watched this show yet.

  33. audrey says:

I don’t get HBO and haven’t seen it either.

  34. CapturingLife says:

I’d be thrilled with more Eric and less Bill. Bill is just “bleh”.
