John Mayer Talks About Working With Taylor Swift

John Mayer's new album was released today - his first in 3 years. He sat down with the Fuse network to talk about the album and why he chose to work with Taylor Swift for one of his songs.

"Keeping with the Tom Petty context, I'd written a song that was really straight up, melodic, to-the-point chorus and I was thinking that if I, in my little imagination, that I'm Tom Petty when I'm singing this song, then who's Stevie Nicks?" he tells the Fuse network.

"And I'm very strange about getting other people to perform on my records because I want those records to be around forever and I don't know what someone else is going to do in their life. I was confident that this was not a gimmick just to sell a record and that was evidence by her coming in and us having a great time in the studio. Where she is is just fantastic."

You can catch John tonight on Fuse and send Tweets during the broadcast.

"Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live from the Beacon Theatre." Viewers can also be a part of the broadcast by participating in "Who Says: Tweets on TV," which invites fans to post tweets using #mayeronfuse for their chance to see their tweets on-air.

Have you heard John's song with Taylor yet? Did you pick up or download the album today? Do you plan to?

Hmm... my hubby downloaded the album a couple of weeks ago. I don't love it. Give me the Trio stuff and I'm happy. (I know I sound like a broken record but this boy can play. I just hate his douchey, sappy singing and writing.)

I'm not a John Mayer fan, and I think I am in a very small group of people that think Taylor Swift can't sing all that well, so I won't be downloading his album.

I'm actually a Taylor Swift fan. I love her music, but I have to agree that when you really listen to her, no, her voice isn't all that great. I thought that the first time I heard her, but she grows on you. :-)

I like John Mayer and Taylor Swift, but he is no Tom Petty and she is certainly no Stevie Nicks.

Love JM and TS is ok. JM's new album is great and the song with TS is really good. I too would rather hear the JM trio. John is a fantastic live musician and can handle a guitar like nobody I've witnessed.
