Lady Gaga Says Grace Jones Is Her Inspiration

Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network, is getting up close and personal with today’s top artists in its new one-on-one interview series “On The Record with Fuse.” Their latest victim... Lady GAGA!

Viewers can catch the singer on November 23 at 9pm ET as she sits down to chat about her upcoming tour, her fans and androgyny in women.

On the song PokerFace:

“Well that song was about fantasizing about women when I was in bed with my ex-boyfriend so I didn’t really want him to know because it bothered him, but I couldn’t help myself. And it was me struggling with my sexuality and my, not struggling with I should say, enjoying, celebrating and that was the inspiration behind the song.”

On Androgyny:

“Grace (Jones) is such an inspiration to me, which is why with all the rumors that have flown around over the year, I was always excited because the androgyny of the woman. It’s this kind of fascinating thing that nobody understands or wants to understand unless you’re in the beautiful subculture that is my fans and the gay community.”

On calling her fans “Monsters”:

“I see myself in my fans, and they see themselves in me. I felt like a freak for so long, in school, growing up, you know I wore a uniform, but when I went home I used to put makeup on in the house and I used to sleep with my makeup on. My mother used to say, ‘Where the hell are you going kid?’ And I’d say ‘Well, what do you think of Marilyn today? Or I did Judy Garland today, mom.’ It was my way of expressing myself, so I think that the kids in the audience, they feel like freaks too.”

On her Monster Ball tour:

“There’s a theme of evolution and change. So I begin as a cell and grow throughout the show. Tremendously innovative choreography. Insane fashion installations. It’s of course in the vein of what my aesthetic has become which is the work is always in some sense half performance art, half installation. So it’s both. And we’re doing things that have never been done before. And I’m playing all the music from The Fame, and all of the music from The Fame Monster and I’ve been telling my fans it’s a giant post-apocalyptic house party.”

Anyone planning on catching Lady Gaga's tour?

I wonder if anyone would pay attention to her if not for the costumes.

Over 6 months ago I already rewrote John Lennon's Imagine and changed it to "imagine there's no fascism."

She's inspired by someone, for sure. She's unoriginal and not a good pianist nor a good singer. She's all costume and those are hideous. She's hiding under that wig and behind glasses because she has no attractiveness and no talent.

The only one's making a big stink about her is the mainstream media who only lover her because she distracts losers from learning about more important things going on in the world such as that the Armageddon is being waged and symbols of Lucifer are on the dollar bill. The occult is behind cookoo acts too.

She's a total hack.

I love lady GaGa. I think she's hysterically funny. Her outfits are so out of control that they make me laugh. I like that she doesn't really take herself that seriously.

Love her music but can't stand her performances. They are too weird for my taste.

After reading about it - it sounds really interesting and I wish I could go to one of her performances. I'm on the "Basic Survival" budget these days, so unless someone buys me tickets I won't be able to go.

please... could she try and imitate more Roisin Murphy? Roisin is a such a wonderful artist, just listen to her music and look at her live performances. Lady Gaga tries to rip her off yet she fails miseraly. ripping off icons and references is so beyond lame... it's pathetic.

Ugh, I truly can't stand this woman and her mentioning Grace's name in any context is disturbing. Grace was an original, Gaga is a cheap imitation.
