Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Were Very Generous In 2008

The Hollywood Reporter obtained a copy of Angelina Jolie's and Brad Pitt's 2008 tax return for the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which is the organization the couple use to donate money.

[T]he Hollywood couple sent over $6 million to charities last year.

Indeed, they more than doubled what they gave in 2007, which is pretty impressive.

In 2008, the pair parked just over $13 million in their foundation, and gave away half of it.

The biggest recipients of their largesse were: Global Health ($2 million), Human Rights Watch ($1 million), Brad’s Make it Right Foundation ($1 million).

Some other notable contributions: $500,000 to the Armed Services YMCA of the U.S. Army; $50,000 to the Springfield, Missouri Public Schools (Brad’s hometown); and roughly a million dollars to projects in Cambodia, the country from which they adopted their first child.

It's nice to see them giving back, considering how much they probably earn for their acting!

and don't we know they need the tax break with all the dough they have coming in from overseas tv ads.

LOL. you're right. I actually dont think 6 million a piece is dat much considering they each ask for a lot per movie filemed. Its probably just the right amount for taxes.

Its called Freedoom of Information, they did not annouce it, it was researched and published by someone other than them. Im happy that they are making the world a better place than it was when they got here. What are you doing other than setting in front of a computer, hating on people that you envy.. tsk tsk.

In February? I don't see how that's possible. High income families almost always get a tax extension and foundation taxes (with an extension) are filed by November 15th. Even without an extension foundation returns are due by May 15, 2009.

Lol, Some people love to pick others apart , but yet won't even take the time to help others in need. I suppose that's what makes our world go around.

So between the two of them, they made $36 or so million that year. They said 1/3 to savings, 1/3 to living costs and 1/3 to charity, right?

i see both sides of it. Yes it is great they are donating, however it IS a tax write-off, and yes they are getting some nice free PR.

Of course it's a tax write-off, everyone gets to write-off for charitable contributions. Should they be exempt to the tax write-off? Would you rather they gave that money to the federal government in the form of taxes? I think it's wonderful that they give as much as they do. Some celebrities don't give at all.

while i'm sure you are right and some celebs don't donate to charity, there are plenty who do but just don't ANNOUNCE it to the world and make a big deal out of it like brangelina.

I don't care what you say. I like Brad and Angie. I know you don't and that's fine, I respect your opinion. But I like both of them. They are both good actors, which to me means a lot since there are so many bad actors out there, and they do give back and they have every right to announce it.

P.S.
The thank you was for meme. while I respect your opinion as well, I beg to differ. I think Brad Pitt is a blank actor. i didnt see what the big deal was in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cate overshadowed him with her acting. He just kind of looked blank the whole time and hardly showed any emotion while she was crying her heart out in scenes. I cant think of one moment in his filmography where I was BLOWN away by his acting.
As for angelina, I think no matter what role she's give she brings her pouty bad ass attitude into it. she shows great emotion but I've never seen her play a role and become someone else. I watch a mvoie and I still see Angelina Jolie.
Let's be real and stop letting the politics of the Oscars delude is. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are just pretty faces.

Oh Sister, have you seen the Inglorious Basterds? Brad Pitt stole each and every scene he was in, hands down. As for Angelina -- rent The Bone Collector. Pouty bad-ass attitude? Nope. But she holds her own against Denzel pretty darned well!

Hey Meme, crazy called, you forgot to take your meds again.

Agreed they made way more money than that off the pics of their kids and 100% was to be donated to charities, remember they said they would not keep any of it. ( and Ang was going to take time off to take care of the kids too!) They sure know how to get PR when they need it and with 2 very revealing books coming out, I guess we should see them get the twins out soon.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

True thats the only time you see the twins! SO SO Fake, and they sure do know how to act when they need to.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Considering that the money they put into the foundation came from selling pics of thier kids, and private family photos, and not out of thier pockets...its not so impressive to me!!!

remywill remywill said:

Yeah, they've made a ton off of those kids.....this doesn't even put a dent in it. Considering how much they make from movies and tv ads do they really need to be pimping the kids so they can give a little back............

Anonymous Anonymous said:

The money for the kids pictures was taxed (I'm sure all of you realize that). The story was researched and written by Roger Friedman (formerly of Fox News and no fan of Ms. Jolie's). Also, only a percentage of charitable gifts is tax deductible, and they probably hit that amount after the second million. I know there are people who dislike this couple, some even hate them for what they did to poor Jenny Pooh, but trashing them for being generous and actually trying to help less fortunate people is not something I would feel good about doing, even to a celebrity I disliked. Good for them and I hope they continue with their good deeds and generosity.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

who cares seriously??? i don't find this inspiring at all - they're so fake - this is just to clean their image and make themselves look good in the public eye - but in reality they're cold, money hungry, overbearing, narcissistic egotistical, look at me i'm better than you b1tches.

So u mean to tell me that if all of u were to make as much money as they do that u'd give MORE? VERY doubtful!
Whether they give 10 cents or 10 million..it's still better that nothing and much better than what the general population gives. Give them a break.
I think it's fabulous that they're sharing their wealth...who cares how much of it they're giving away! Jeez some of u sound so bloody greedy and envious.
