Okay, so we know Oprah will stop doing ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ in 2011. In an interview this morning, Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King, gave this assurance:
“She’s riding off from The Oprah Winfrey Show as we know it, but she’s not riding off into the sunset.”
That’s the truth.
Variety announced today that Oprah’s production company, Harpo Films, has set up a new pilot with HBO. Here’s how it’s described:
[The show is] a sexually charged hourlong series pilot about a woman who leaves her seemingly perfect marriage and children in Santa Monica for the underbelly of L.A., where she indulges her secret fantasies and desires.
“It is unsentimental and pretty shocking, and there is something complicated and destructive driving her,” [Harpo President] Forte said. “It is literally a day at the pool, where she gets up, in sarong and flip-flops, and walks out of her life, leaving everyone behind so abruptly that her husband and kids initially think she’s been kidnapped or murdered.”
Hmmm… sounds like a real departure for Oprah. Is this something you want to check out or pass on?

Hey Oprah, there is this talk about you setting yourself up like a goddess. I don’t know what that means. I have watched your shows all my life and I know though unconventional they touch lives. Does Jesus Christ have any place in your heart? This is personal, I know, but I would just like to know as your fan. I don’t know what your next project is, but many people seem to feel like you are setting yourself too high and seeking worship.
Pass.
And of course love. Love prevents us from walking away as well.
I think that is something we have all wanted to do at one point or another in our lives but responsiblity and maturity and common sense prevent us from just walking out on life/lives we have created. Hmmm, I’m really not sure if I would want to watch this or not.
I really wish Oprah would just go away already!
