Alec Baldwin Is Quitting Hollywood (And He Means It This Time)

Alec Baldwin has had enough of Hollywood and acting. At least, he will have had enough once he’s co-hosted the Academy Awards and quits television, which will be possible in 2012 (when his contract for ’30 Rock’ ends).

I don’t have any interest in acting anymore,” he said. “Movies are part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.”

Didn’t he say something like this before he signed on to do ’30 Rock’?

Well, what would that something else be? E! Online speculates that it might be public service (as in, becoming a politician).

However, if Alec wants to be seen as a competent person who can be an effective government official, he may want to stop saying things like this:

“It’s a difficult thing to say, but I believe it: I consider my entire movie career a complete failure,” he said. “I’ll tell you why. The goal of moviemaking is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that.”

Sounds like Alec is his own harshest critic!

I was looking back into what big movies he had been in, and realized he was Adam in Beetlejuice! I don’t know why I thought it was so funny… He’s a good actor, but if he wants to do something else, he should. (I also think he’s probablya jerk in real life…)

Good riddins! Can’t stand him and won’t watch anything he is in. No loss here.

    He’s great in 30 Rock.

  4. bgduckie_01 says:

if he’s not feeling it anymore then its time to leave that career.

  5. But I liked very much ..

He must be going back to crazy land.

pish posh, Alec is a great actor and has a steady career behind him. Maybe he’s not one of THE ACTORS in Hollywood, but he’s still one of those known, respected ones i think. It’s a shame he thinks that way, but i guess he would’ve just wanted to be one of the best of the best of the best.. :)

  8. KissKiss says:

I think he’s a great actor. He’s just not so great when it comes to picking movies, his part on Pearl Harbor being the worst of them all. I actually felt bad for him when I saw that movie, all the lame, predictable lines he had…

    He is really great actor..

I think I can understand where he is coming from. We always think of hollywood stars as something special because there are so few of them, but the truth is many of them were elevated to fame and fortune because of luck. Alec has been a mediocre actor his entire career, and at any job 30 years of medicracy would feel like a failure to the average joe….

  11. Gati says:

I dont think Alec Baldwin is a medicre actor at all! He never steps out of character, and believably speaks in another accent throughout a whole movie unlike some actors who have terrible fake accents and still display themselves instead of their characters.
As fot the critical and commercial success thing, well that’s just silly. The movies with commercial success are often horrible and the critics are obviously paid off. “Transformers” had commercial success and that doesnt make Megan Fox a great actress. “Wanted” had critical success and most people I saw it with agree it was dumb and boring excewpt for the train scene.

    That guy needs therapy

Agree with Kiss. He’s had some bad movies and bad roles, but despite everything I think he’s quite a decent actor. He was a good Jack Ryan in the Hunt for Red October. Right now I just love him in 30 Rock.

Aside from his harsh personality he is a good actor. It is sad he is quiting.
