Katie Holmes Defends Putting Suri Cruise In Heels

Katie Holmes has finally spoken up about her decision to let her daughter Suri wear heels. The media has been giving this actress a lot of grief over the shoes and Katie says it’s not a big deal.

Like every little girl, she loves my high heels. They are actually ballroom dancing shoes for kids,” she tells Access. “I found them for her and she loves them.”

Suri also “loves dancing and singing and she’s just a joy. She loves it all.”

There you have it. Now, if only we can get her talking about still using a bottle. :)

Funny that any story about Suri usually has the most comments. Who cares?

who gives a shit… gosh. and VERA, arent you the one that always says u feel bad for the celeb kids? so why do u even post stuff about them. paps follow them because BLOGS buy their pictures.
she’s a lil girl, leave her the hell alone

Actually, I’m sick of seeing Suri’s pictures to the point I can’t stand to see them anymore. They seem to be everywhere, everyday. This family gives off the oddest vibe. Can’t they fade into the background for a while?

  4. Scruffy says:

I’m sick of this debate already….

  5. Alexann says:

OMG – I LOVE Suri! She is completely adorable – and looks extremely well-adjusted, fun-loving, NORMAL, and very engaged in the joy of living. Katie’s doing a great job as a mother. (Only my 2 cents, of course!)

Actually, it’s a proven medical fact that children this age SHOULD still wear orthopaedically correct shoes. Anything with an angle over 1/2 an inch should be avoided. The bones are still malleable and soft at this stage, and even this tiny ‘harmless’ kitten heel could cause damage at a skeletal level at the rate she’s wearing them. (I would urge you parents who purchase heeled boots for their pre-pubescent daughters to resist the urge to make them into mini you’s. Keep their feet in as natural state as possible) Don’t forget, your feet are you ‘foundation’, you NEED to take care of them. Not to mention that children aren’t the most stable on flat feet as it is, they run, stumble, fall, trip… Yes, everything an adult can do as well, but at a much higher rate.

Oh, and to the ladies who insists on using themselves as examples of “I did it when I was a kid and I’m fine…” Give it a few years honey, you can’t see them yet, but those bunions are gonna show themselves regardless…

I think heels sexualize little girls and that’s really gross. As to the reasoning that hey, it’s okay, they make heels for little girls–that’s insane. They make thongs for little girls too, which is so incredibly disguting. ICK. ICK. ICK.

  9. Anonymous says:

so where does she “defend putting suri in heels?”

  10. Anonymous says:

Heels sexualize girls?? WTF? Since when? Girls love wearing their moms heels and in no way is that sexual. Give me a break! Let the girl wear her heels if she wants to.

  11. papyrus says:

children will “love” about everything growing up. but not everything they “love” is good for them or even safe, its up to the parent to decide whats good or not and for how long. If Suri decides she loves to wear Katie’s lingerie would she allow it too? because she loves it? hope not.

  12. anhydre says:

    Since ever actually.
Yes, little girls will wear their mother’s heels, make up and clothes. As fun as it is when it is done home and remains a dress up game it is clear that letting a little girl play grown ups full time is not healthy. Would you let your daughter get out of the house with bras filled with socks just beacause she wants to look like mommy? :o D

    good point ;)

  18. elaine123 says:

I think Yayi and those who agree with her about Katie having to defend her parenting policies should think again about why you are even cruising this site. I mean, isn’t that what gossip is all about…peaking into the private lives (and their decisions) of celebrities.

  19. anhydre says:

    Co-sign!

  20. Scruffy says:

Ah, its you again….. Still havn’t been to get those meds yet I see…. tsk tsk

  21. elaine123 says:

PLease, do the world a favor and do not procreate!!!

  22. burnt-butterfly says:

leave the poor girl alone, let kids be kids.
if she want to wear heels, or w a tutu, hell she might decide that she want a helmet on her head 24/7, then let her. Children are force to grow up far to quickly these days, so she should be a kid while she still can be.

  23. Lizzypoo says:

I think if she wants to wear them then fine. She’s a little girl and she’s not being hurt.

  24. Anonymous says:

I agree, if for short periods of time (like almost all little girls do). The problem would be with extensive use as it would prohibit the development of her legs and feet.

  25. Nicole says:

I guess if she’s steady in them – I’m 25 and can’t wear heels! I’d break my ankle! LOL

  26. Anonymous says:

Ha! I’m not even steady in flats.

  27. YAYI says:

“Now, if only we can get her talking about still using a bottle.” I respect this site and all, but those comments that Vera or her writers make are so moronic. She (katie) doesn’t have to explain anything. That’s her child and she doesn’t have to discuss anything about her kids habbits, just because others are curious. If she wants to give her daughter a bottle till she’s 10 yrs old it would be her business after all.

  28. Monica says:

I thought the same thing. It’s none of our business. And I’m not worried about Suri not usually wearing a coat either. She seems fine. However, I do think the writer was only kidding!

  29. Anonymous says:

i agree, i think vera should just stop posting about celebrity children. they didnt sign up to have tons of weird men around taking their pictures when they are playing in the park.

  30. Monica says:

I liked small heels when I was a young child too. Like, I was obsessed with them. It did me no harm. :) Let Suri wear her heels with no questions asked!

  31. Nyx says:

If this was some anonymous child that you saw with her mother in the supermarket checkout, wearing no coat and open-toed adult-styled high heels, I wonder if you’d all feel the same way. Slap a bit of make-up on her and she’s done up like those tiny beauty show contestants. The thing is that celebrities inspire trends whether they mean to or not and this is not a great trend for the Cruises to encouraging amongst parents of toddlers. Aside from the fact that this child needs to learn that even though she’s Tom Cruise’s daughter, she still can’t always have her own way in life, her parents need to parent her and do what’s right for her, not what’s easy for them. They can’t always give in to her.

The problem is that heels like that are very, very unhealthy for a small child who´s growing – ask any orthopedist!!! Why do you think people are buying expensive healhty (flat) shoes for kids? Quote: Do not let children wear any higher heels; this results in the deformation of the front foot part as well as in pelvis and backbone defects….The bones and joints are still growing and you should make sure that your child has perfectly fitting shoes that give the right kind of support. High heels – everybody knows – are even bad for the feet, knees and hips and spine of grown up women – but they are old enough to decide on their own (…and it seems to be the latest “thing” to publicly declare that one wears heels EVERYWHERE – even for garden work etc. – how stupid can you get??).
It´s absolutely OK to allow your toddler to wear a tutu instead of jeans outside in summer, why not? BUT it´s crazy and irresponsible if you let her do it in a snowstorm!! If she wants to start drinking and smoking would they let her?? There is a huge difference between allowing something that´s maybe weird looking but fun and allowing something thats a health risk- this can not be the decision of a toddler.
Another thing: Ballroomdancing shoes for a 4 year old???? Any qualified sports instructor working with kids will tell you that this is an abomination, kids of that age are not fit enough physically and mentally to start learning a sport like that in such a professional way that would require special dancing shoes! Any sane, responsible person teaching toddlers in a dance class will do this in a very playful way that is not harmful to the child´s growth and health.
About dressing up like a “woman”: take a look at fashion – for years it has become more and more fashionable to dress like a prostitute. In my neighbourhood you can meet both hookers and girls on their way to school – the slutty looking ones are the school girls, the prostitutes look more respectable…Female pop stars look and act like S&M queens in their videos… When I was small we loved to dress up like a little princess, girls today cant wait to dress up like sluts – who can blame them? It´s up to us to give kids an impression what being a grown up women means and looks like, and with what kind of images they grow up.
