Michelle Williams has been asked to portray Marilyn Monroe on the big screen. The ‘Brokeback Mountain’ actress has been lined up to play tragic screen icon Marilyn in movie ‘My Week With Marilyn’ – which will focus on the making of her 1957 film ‘The Prince And The Showgirl’ with Laurence Olivier.
Although Michelle has been offered the part by director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt, the 29-year-old has asked for some time decide whether or not the part is right for her.
Simon is due to meet with her in 10 days to receive her decision. If she accepts the role, Michelle will start filming in London in June.
What do you think? Will Michelle make a good Marilyn? That is such a HUGE role – big shoes to fill. I’m not sure ANYONE would be able to do Marilyn justice.
The storyline – which was written by Adrian Hodges and is backed by BBC Films – is based on a diary written by Colin Clark while he worked for Laurence – who directed, produced and starred in the film – as third assistant director. However, his unofficial role was to keep Marilyn out of Laurence’s way.
The diary has already been published but details of one specific week were left out. This missing time frame will become the basis of the story.
Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams were also considered for the role.

I agree with those who say Michelle has the talent but not the body. The fact is, Marilyn was a big girl, supposedly a 12 or 14 in today’s sizes. Michelle probably isn’t even a 2!
I can’t see any of today’s actresses being able to pull off Marilyn Monroe. She was no skeleton and had that certain something that made her stand out on screen. EVen in that home video that has been floating around where she is supposedly smoking pot (which she wasn’t) the woman had star quality written all over her.
although i like michelle (after dawson creek years) i’m not too sure if she’s the right fit for the role. definitely not physically. maybe we could get michelle’s head and cgi it on top of scarlett’s body? like what they did with arnold in terminator: salvation!
I think MIchelle Williams could handle it, but she’s too skinny! Marilyn was a beautiful woman, built like a woman! God forbid a size six or something plays her instead of a 00. I’m sure there is talent on the realistic side of Hollywood.
If she accepts the part, she’ll have 6 months to gain some weight. I don’t get why her current size is even an issue.
i really like michelle. i think she’s incredibly pretty nowadays, she seems very sweet and she’s talented…but looks wise i think scarlett johansson would be the more obvious choice for marilyn monroe.
I agree, scarlett johansson would be perfect to play marilyn monroe. BTW, marilyn was not a size 12 or a 14….she was more of a size 8. She has a perfect hourglass figure with a tiny waist (36-23-37). she was about 5’5 1/2 and her weight was about 118 lbs to 128 lbs. She wasn’t THAT big.
I do have to agree with the size issue. Marilyn was known for those curves ! Michelle does seem tiny like a child. Of course they can use body suits and the like but why not just get someone who resembles MM instead of trying to force someone to be suitable?
she has the face, the voice, and i believe the talent too. When she first started acting she was very curvy. Scarlett ! hell to the NO! she’s a body and that’s it. She wold ruin it. Amy is the redhead? if so she too would be a pleasant surprise.

Wow. Of all the people that could have been picked to play this role, Michelle Williams is definately NOT one I can back up. I will def see this movie because I am a tad obsessed with Marilyn Monroe, but I wish they could have found a better actress.
they need to pick a no name. None of the actresses mentioned seems like a good Marilyn. I cant even think of one famous woman off the top of my head that would be good.
i think she is Beautiful. if you google her pics, she actually does have a very Marilyn-ish vibe to here. and to the second comment, YOURE CRAZY to think she’s a skinny pixie! she is Actually curvy/ healthy looking and looks Gorgeous.. quit Hatin! ;P

i really dont see her playing that role but i cant picture anyone else either. it’ll be interesting to see who ends up getting that role. hopefully it turns out great.
She is such an understated actress and could surely step into these shoes, just as she can with any role I’ve seen her in. She has shown that she is versatile.
Scarlett would at least have the sex appeal. Maybe even Katherine Heigl (whom I hate).
while i like michelle as an actress, you can’t deny that she doesn’t have the same body type as marilyn. i wonder if she decides to do the movie if they’ll use a body suit or something on her to make her more curvy
Honestly, I have never thought of her resembling Marilny, but now that it’s a possibility I can kinda see it (in her face). I agree with most, in that she doesn’t necessarily have the figure for it, but she is a good actress. I guess only time will tell…
Marilyn was a vintage size 12 and at her biggest when she was pregnant she was a vintage 14. Her dress maker claimed to measure her at 35-22-35 while the studio wanted a more busty claim going for 37-23-36. i deal with and sell vintage clothes and the sizing is very different. I wear a 12 vintage and a 5 modern and I measure 34-24-35. Anyway that’s all I have to say. Marilyns body is about the small waist not the boobs and the butt.
I also think some unknown actress should be looked at for the part. A girl with the it factor enough to play somebody like Marilyn but the child like appeal as well. Somebody with a tiny waist and a beautiful face.

I guess I am stuck on the fact that Michelle is an excellent actress! Isn’t that what an actress does? Act? Therefore, if she decides to play the part, its because she knows she can fulfill and play the role to her best. Whether, she is as endowed as Marilyn should not to be an issue. That is up to the costume designers and the magic of computerized graphics and photography. come on people, heard of “Photoshop”? Almost anything can be done these days!!!!

While I love Michelle Williams as an actress and from what I can tell of her as a person, I’m not sure she is right for this role. But, that’s what actresses supposedly do – take on the part of someone else entirely, right? I could def. SEE Scarlett playing the part, not sure if she could pull it off though. We shall see.
