Remake Of ‘Death At A Funeral’

Disclaimer: Parts of this trailer may not be safe for work!

I start watching the trailer for this new Chris Rock movie and just a few seconds in, it feels like I’d seen it before. Hmmm…because I have – just two years ago, but with a different cast (almost). How weird is this?

The movie ‘Death At A Funeral’, originally made in 2007, has been redone and is set to release in 2010. The original was about a dysfunctional Brittish family that learns secrets about their deceased father at his funeral. The remake is basically the same with a comedy cast that includes Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Danny Glover, James Marsden and more. Playing the same character as he did in the previous movie is actor Peter Dinklage (Nip/Tuck and Chronicles of Narnia)

What do you think? Did you see the original? Do you think it’s too soon to put this out? Or maybe not since the first one wasn’t very widely known?

The original was hilarious and well done. What made it so good, was an uncomfortable situation coupled with british dry humor. I don’t know think the same kind of audience will like it in the states. Its too soon. Not to mention, I know a lot of people that saw the original. Its not like it was a small unknown movie across seas. I think its odd.

Argh sorry for posting that twice!

This SUCKS!!!! The original was awesome! I actually disturbed almost an entire plane while watching the original on a flight. During the scene with the elderly uncle in the bathroom I actually loudly yelled “Oh NO NO NO” needless to say a lot of other passengers looked at me funny and then wanted to know what I was watching. Seriously the producers really needed to remake this movie?!?!?!

  6. Booyah says:

I nearly peed my pants laughing so hard at the first. Rather ambitious to remake it again, and so soon. :(

The first one is amazing!! I don´t understand the need to do a remake, what, americans don´t get the british humor? or Hollywood ran out of ideas?
I know I won´t like it because I will be comparing every second with the original.

I agree that they should not remake this movie especially so soon. The original was unbelievably hilarious. Get your own ideas, Hollywood!

I LOVED the original, but the trailer for the American version looks like it will be pretty funny. I don’t think it’ll be as enjoyable because I’ll constantly be comparing it to the first one – as with any remake – but moreso because it’s only 2 years old!

  14. Heli says:

    OMG that’s hilarious!!!

  18. QueenOfTrashin says:

I would say that Peter Dinklage is best known for The Station Agent.

You can’t get better than the original movie, it was hysterical! The writers, director, the cast… I honestly did not stop laughing the entire time.

Why couldn’t we just accept that it was a great movie and leave it at that? Why must we try and do everything bigger and better. This really annoys me.

And as much as I love James Marsden, Alan Tudyk gave one of the best comedic performances (as Simon) that I’ve ever seen.

You can tell by the promo that they’re trying to hard.
