Tobey Maguire Struggles With Dark Scenes

I’m sure Tobey Maguire is happy about his Golden Globe nomination for his work in ‘Brothers,’ where his character is a traumatized war veteran who fought in Afghanistan, but he said the “dark scenes” were hard to do, especially the ones where his character was with his daughters.

I had to do what I had to do but I was conflicted about it,” he says. “Despite the fact that you want them to react, I don’t want to hurt them emotionally. They were really amazing, mature little girls but at the same time, they’re little girls.”

I’d imagine being a father of two himself made it even harder for Tobey! This is what scares me about child actors: do they really know the difference between acting and reality? Especially the younger ones.

But congratulations to Tobey on his Golden Globe nomination :)

I need to see this movie. Up until this point I haven’t been too impressed with his acting. He plays every character the same, his Pleasantville character. I would love to see him step it up a notch or 10 so I need to see Brothers.

The movie was amazing! Everyone acted so well. I was especially impressed by the one little girl. There’s a scene where she’s with her family at the dining room table and it was just so emotional. It was hard to believe that a child could act like that!

That is such a sweet quote. I imagine it was hard because he’s a father.
