It sounds like it, from the way Hugh Grant seems to feel about Christmas! He told USA Today’s Donna Freydkin he and his father prefer to go wherever they don’t celebrate Christmas to avoid the holidays.
“The last few Christmases, with both of us old and alone and grumpy, we’ve avoided Christmas. I said, ‘Dad, we’re going to go a Muslim country and avoid Christmas.’ We’ve been everywhere. We’ve been to Marrakesh. We always have a pretty good time and come back when it’s all over.”
This year, Hugh’s brother got involved.
“We ended up organizing a highly expensive, highly expensive thing in Jamaica with the whole family and private jets and God knows what,” says Grant. “I said to dad the other day, ‘Are you looking forward to Jamica?’”
The elder Grant’s response? “‘Not really, no. It’s much too hot.’”
LOL! Well, maybe Christmas on the beach won’t be so bad with the whole family together ![]()
While I LOVE the holidays (Christmas with kids is magical), I know some people really don’t (especially if the family situation isn’t so great). Are you one of those people, or do you know people, who work to avoid the holiday hoopla?

Unless Hugh Grant and his family spent their Jamaican vacation locked up in their rooms, I don’t know HOW they avoided Christmas celebrations in Jamaica. If you don’t want to celebrate Christmas, Jamaica ain’t the place! Christmas here is HUGE – Homes redecorated, or special Christmas dishes and drinks, parties and church services galore, street parades, xmas carols on the radio stations – heck even the airports welcome visitors to a Jamaican Christmas, there is shopping and more shopping and Christmas eve night everyone is out in the streets celebrating or at home baking, cooking and oh the holiday spirits (alcohol) flow freely. Oh, and December 26th-Boxing Day is a holiday…and festivities dont end until January 2…So where was He???
I love Christmas!
i grew up not celebrating for 18 years…. so i adore it now.
Christmas isn’t as big deal as New Year for my family! But we still celebrate it – twice !
))
I like Christmas because it’s one of the few occasions when I can visit family. I understand why some people dislike it, though. Some people have friends and family with ridiculous expectations that can make shopping and “celebrating” a chore.
nope not really into it
love Christmas too !
I hate the commercialism of it all and those radio stations that play Christmas songs 24/7. So annoying! I’d rather not exchange any presents (well, except for the kids) and just celebrate & have a good time with family & friends.
