Want to pull off a hoax that has officials from multiple agencies and the media looking for your kid? If you do, remember Richard and Mayumi Heene: they’re now facing jail for the stunt.
Richard was just sentenced to 90 days in jail. He’ll be allowed to served 60 of the 90 days on a work-release program. Richard will also be on probation for four years and is not allowed to profit from the incident during his probation.
How about he’s NOT EVER allowed to profit from the hoax?
During the hearing, Heene appeared to be choking back tears and he apologized for the incident.
Mayumi was sentenced to 20 days in jail for her role in the crime. She’ll serve her sentence after Richard completes his.
Yesterday the couple were sent a bill for $42,000 yesterday from local, state, and federal agencies for their work searching for their son. Ouch!
Has justice been served?

stupid people
I love that they got a bill for all the costs associated with their hoax! That’s the best part of the whole thing. It’s too bad people like this rely on hoaxes to try and make a name for themselves.
SWEET! That Dick! I mean Richard is payin and looked like a jagoff on National TV–Merry Xmas, Idiot!
DESEREVED! The only thing is, is the poor kids.
finally!!
I love the ruling that he can’t make any money off the story for 4 years… they should do things like that more often, I’m soooo sick of these people who do anything to become ‘celebs’…. just look a the ultimate example spiedi…. soo pathetic
Good for them.
I’m glad they didn’t get off scot-free. Those agencies had much more important things they could’ve been spending their time on…
yes!
idiots
Good. Make them pay.
Only $42,000? I would have added a few more zeros onto that just for the pain and suffering they put the entire country through.
That is good news! No tolerance for famewhores. Sometimes the justice system actually works!
