What I found depressing about the movie was the fact that if that scenario were real it would go down just like that because we are a greedy, exploitative race. I doubt it would really have the happy ending though.

Avatar is an okay movie. I liked it better the first time I saw it when it was called Pocahontas.

I don’t think this is unreasonable. I normally get a little depressed after seeing movies because that chunk of time when I was involved in an exciting story that ends happily is over and now I have to go back to the fight in my own life, which I’m never certain I’ll win. But THIS movie didn’t depress me at all because it was so shallow and spent more time showing you cool special effects than developing memorable characters. It was like watching a video game.

we are killing indigenous tribes, and nature… for oil. Now thats depressing. We don’t respect the earth, and were not connected to nature. people think that technology is evolution, but really it’s just an escape. In fact it’s a distraction, and is making it so people don’t know whats really going on. And the people in power can do whatever they want. As were all pawns in there game, as they pull the strings. As people are immersed in bullshit, and everyone sits back and does nothing. we work for paper(money, degrees). And spend our lifes attached to material things. Searching for what they tell us we need to succeed.

couldn’t have said it better myself. exactly what is happening to the world.

  6. CG says:

So Avatar makes people feel ‘blue’? Oh c’mon! lol

  7. C. says:

I think the depression is because they see themselves has having lived their lives unconsciously taking and taking from the planet and each other. I think this movies can cause some to wake up to the truth that they’ve lived their lives badly.

  8. Karin says:

What depresses me is that no one at HLN/CNN caught the obvious spelling mistake. And that online forum comments are used as a solid source. I may as well burn my B. Jour since I could have spent those years trolling people’s FB profiles and Twitter pages and gotten a job with CNN, instead of a low-paying internship.

The people who preach like this are usually the worst offenders in materialism, technology and “working for paper.” As evidenced by, you know, the fact that they’re preaching over the TECHNOLOGICAL INTERNET.

“Post-Avatar Depression phenomenon” – Good God give me a break.

  11. Scruffy says:

I totally think you are missing the point.

  12. Blade13 says:

Reading all these comments proves that most people are brainwashed, selfish and ignorant. Most of you people don’t even understand what the message this movie tried to portray, and that’s fine that you think that this “Post Avatar Depression” thing is silly or stupid, but you need to understand why they feel that way, just try to see things through someone else’s eyes for once, it might help make you a better person. The spiritual and beautiful world of Pandora is the kind of world these people want, you know why? Because humans were meant to live and be in harmony with nature, not technology, so naturally humans are going to be drawn to that, it is a part of us, and that movie showed us what we don’t have anymore, and each day it will keep getting further and further from our grasp until we do something to change that.

    Post-Avatar Depression, haha, idiots!… get a life!

  14. i love avatar, my favorite movie of all time. it was so good that i actually did experience post avatar depression lol. but just for like the rest of the day. that weekend (day after i saw the movie) i went riding in the middle of the mojave desert on my dirt bike. it really reminded me of the world that we live in. i immediately remembered pandora, and realized that even the never ending desert that i was staring at from the top of a mountain looked better. well ever since then i’ve been over post avatar depression, so yeah pretty much everybody who experiences it needs to get a life and go outdoors. really though it is my favorite movie of all time, so yeah it really does cause depression.

I agree with blade. Humans weren’t put on earth to cover it with concrete and steel, altho that’s exactly what has happened. We also weren’t supposed to be staring at computer screens (like I’m doing now) for the better part of the day at work only to go home and live behind another screen, tv. When you break it down in terms of what is lifes purpose for humans, you find that it’s not far off from what the Na’vi are doing in the movie, and that’s the same inner craving humans have. Because ultimately that’s what we were designed to crave. This movie basically reawakened that craving that most have lost in time and technology. So not at all is it dumb or silly for people to have those feelings after watching it. It just stimulates the desire in us that’s already been there since we were born.

  17. Grand. If there’s one word I hate, it’s grand. It’s so phony. For a second, I was tempted to tell her to forget about the matinee. But we chewed the fat for a while. That is, she chewed it.

  18. Avatar is really a senseless movie after harry potter.Waste of money.I want a refund.
