Conan O’Brien’s Swan Song

Well, the late-night talk show debacle at NBC is finally over. Conan O’Brien finished his too-short run as ‘The Tonight Show’ host last night. I thought this bit he said here showed that, whether you like his humor or not, he is a CLASS ACT.

After the break are more clips, including the part of his opening monologue that TMZ posted vs what NBC is posting:

Here’s what NBC is putting out:

Steve Carrell did an “exit interview” with Conan:

And on his show Jimmy Kimmel did a funny, but surprisingly accurate, bit about how this whole mess happened :)

I totally forgot to dvr this last night. That first clip made me teary. Truly a classy speech. Kudos to him. The suggested uses for the studio were hysterical. :)

saw it and i teared a little bit. i have no doubt we’ll see more of him soon somewhere, so thats comforting :)

I’ve never particularly been a fan – he’s not really my style of funny – but wow. It’s SO NICE to see somebody be gracious and thankful in the media rather than venom and contempt. That’s class, and the world needs more of it.

It took me a while to warm up to Conan when he first started Late Night, but he really was quite funny, and something to look forward to when I actually get to stay up late on those nights when sleep was not part of the equation. I do hope he rebounds with something spectacular. In the mean time I think I found the cure for insomnia–Jimmy Fallon.

I’ve loved Conan for *years* (went to his show in ’99) so last night’s show was really sad!! When he got emotional, I completely teared up! :-( Can’t wait for him to find a new spot on late night TV!

And Audrey…I totally agree about Jimmy Fallon. He’s incredibly boring and not funny in my book.

That sounded very sincere from his part, great speech. I don’t watch Conan regularly, but i’ve still like his show. It’s not always my type of funny, i hardly ever enjoy sketch comedy, no matter who’s doing it, but his verbal comedy always makes me laugh, and i think his interviews are usually quite the perfect mix of goofy and “serious” :D

“I find it a little difficult to call him a class act after his behaviour of the past few weeks.”

That’s what I was thinking, up until that last show he acted like a child througout the whole saga.

“considering how nbc totally screwed him and robbed him of his dream job, how he “acted” was rather tame.”

I LOVE Conan. I think he is the funniest, and kindest, t.v. host.
