Jude Law is looking forward to no longer playing a Hollywood heartthrob when he reaches 40. The 37-year-old actor says he is reaching the end of his screen hunk status and it’s up to younger actors to take over the mantle.
“I think it will be interesting to be old. It involves a lot of possibilities. The future doesn’t frighten me at all. On the contrary, I am looking forward to it.
“If I have a look around at the moment I feel great relief because finally others are entering the limelight. Men like Robert Pattinson must now play the Adonis. For me it was always a restraint, a restriction.”
Rob is under a lot of pressure isn’t he? The whole Twilight fan base is watching his every move and now older male actors are looking for him to take over their titles! LOL! Give this boy a break.
Jude insists he never wanted to be known as a heartthrob and felt the female attention he attracted hampered his career.
My goal was always to be recognized as a good actor but no one was interested in that, simply because society just wants to warm towards your appearance. This is the great blemish of society.
“When you suddenly appear on the scene and you are the new face, everything centers on you. I experienced this in my mid-20s and I found it rather hard.”
When asked what the best thing about getting older was, he joked to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper:
“That you can take a nap whenever you want and that you can finally say everything you really want to say.”
LOL! I guess those are two awesome things to look forward too. Especially those naps!! ![]()

It’s good that he doesn’t enjoy being the heartthrob because he hasn’t looked like one for several years now.
Damn, he talks like he’s got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
Its true the older you get the less you care what other people think. You do start saying what you really think! and to hell with whoever doesn’t like it. Jude will always be a heartthrob.
Well Jude has definitely played the role of the heartthrob more times than i can count. But i’ve always thought of him as an actor first and a pretty face second, much like Johnny Depp (though i value Depp a lot more, but that’s not the point now) I just loved him on Talented Mr Ripley (ok i basically loved the whole cast, ans the movie itself..) Maybe he has felt restricted, but IMO he has still managed to gain credibility.
I agree with this. Yes, he is beautiful but more talented and creative than beautiful. It’s just not fair that women in the industry do not still get to expand their interests when they reach a certain age.
It’s funny…I never thought of him as a heartthrob. Just a sleazy guy who cheated on his wife with his mistress (Sienna) and then cheated on his mistress with his nanny. Go figure.
Jude’s definitely a hearthrob. I love him as Dr. John Watson. There’s nothing wrong with anything he said, he was obviously asked about growing older, which is of concern for anybody in their careers, but more so in his. I like what he had to say about it, and I’m sure he does sympathize with Rob Pattinson.
And no, he didn’t cheat on Sadie with Sienna. They’re divorce was almost final and Sadie already had a boyfriend living with her when Jude and SM got together. Plus, Sadie cheated on her first husband with Jude, then divorced him, so what about it? Stuff happens…to everybody. Just because things are good here and now doesn’t mean they won’t get messed up sometime later. : )
