Christina Hendricks’ Husband Defends Her Against Fashion Criticism

‘Mad Men’ star Christina Hendricks flaunted her famous curves in her Golden Globes dress (which was designed by ‘Project Runway’ winner Christian Siriano). New York Times Fashion critic Cathy Horyn did not approve, posting in her blog:

Not pretty Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano’s exploding ruffle dress. (As one stylist said, “You don’t put a big girl in a big dress. That’s rule number one.”)

Christina’s new husband, Geoffrey Arend (they married last October), let People know he thought Cathy was completely out of line.

I was just upset about the whole Golden Globes dress thing. I thought she looked so gorgeous. And that New York Times blogger saying that… It’s so ridiculous,” he said…

“What was nice was seeing the entire internet come after that blogger. That was really cool. It was the first time I saw just a solid block of ‘You’re crazy! What’s wrong with you? You should be ashamed of yourself!’ [in the comments.] And honestly, the Grey Lady should be ashamed of themselves to print a picture like that, that they widened!”

Apparently, Geoffrey was right about the picture, according to Cathy’s own admission:

“The photo was slightly distorted inadvertently due to an error during routine processing. The photograph has been replaced.”

And it took Geoffrey calling them out on publishing a distorted photograph to get it corrected? Talk about MEAN!

Well, here are some undistorted photographs of Christina in her Golden Globes dress (and wedding photos :) . What do you think?

Christina is far from a big girl. However, compared to the skeletal remains that are Rachel Zoe, and the casts of any of the CW network dramas she may appear that way. What is sad is that is was a woman who said that about her.

i think maybe if it was a darker color it would look better, it just kinda wipes her out. and the bottom should have been ironed or steamed! it’s all wrinkly

Given that every man at the Golden Globes probably wanted to be next to her that night, it’s hilarious for some fashionista to be judging her and calling her out on her look. Who. Cares. She looks great.

Not really. All that attention is pretty much what any publication wants. It’s validation that they’ve done a good job.

  5. meeeeeeeee says:

she looks fantastic. though this colour would look better one someone with darker skin tone

  6. DUH says:

um, sorry to say but she is a “big girl.” her face if gorgeous and i LOVE her on mad men but she is big. as long as she’s healthy there is nothing wrong with a few extra pounds though. all she needs to do is find a dress that fits correctly and she will look amazing.

I am glad to see “big girls” on the screen again. She is really charming and has a winning smile – however, even if she is bigger than the average skinny Hollywood Lady, she is still not big, but beautiful ;-)

Big girl? The only thing big about her is her chest. The dress is gorgeous…and so is she!

  10. Sammy1976 says:

Oops, that was a double post, sorry.

wide hips and big boobs make her big in my world.

  12. Katie Bee says:

To me she has the ideal body for a woman. She LOOKS like a woman and that is so attractive. And I’d love to have her porecelain skin.

I think she is absolutely gorgeous! She is voluptuous, not big. That blogger is crazy.

  14. MP says:

Christina is gorgeous, the dress is fugly and does nothing for her curves whatsoever. That ‘blogger’ as she is herein called, is a well respected fashion writer for the NYT. She covers haute couture shows, she knows what she speaks.

Well, in the world the rest of us live, big boobs and wide hips make her a sexy woman…

A BMI over 25% makes you overweight; one over 30% makes you obese… Her BMI looks to be well below 25%…

PS: I googled that Cathy person… Ay, Caramba! She’d break a mirror! No wander she is jealous of another woman’s looks…

  16. sweet kiddo says:

that woman is really pretty and shouldn’t be consider a big girl by any means ..come on ,whoever wrote that is a f*cking jealous bitch

  17. Anonymous says:

she is perfect, she is being critized cz she is not angelina jolie or megan fox type of girl, SHE IS VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  18. Anonymous says:

I like the dress itself – but with her big boobs it just doesn’t look pretty at all!

  19. Anon says:

To call this lady a “big girl” is wrong on many levels. As is posting a distorted photograph of her (“accidentally”, my foot!). However, she does have big boobs, and the top of that dress is ill fitting.

  20. lis says:

I think the dress looks really nice on her. I saw the headline and the picture, before reading the article, and thought “criticise what?!” If anything, the colour. but I’m not a fan of champagne-coloured clothing on anybody. I really love the dress.

  21. anwashington says:

i think she is absolutely beautiful. and it’s scary to think that she is considered a Big woman.

  22. Ariel says:

I googled what the blogger looked like. If I had her mug, I’d be calling down celebrities, too.

  23. anwashington says:

oh…i do think the first photo is funny though!…. there she is in her pretty gold dress next to that sign that says “golden globes”…

  24. Anonymous says:

it was corrected on the nytimes site quickly after posting – it was not a result of geoffrey’s comments, it was corrected before he said this

  25. Helen says:

She’s beautiful, I bet that Cathy Whatever is a skinny bitch with a closed mind.

  26. Ariel says:

If you do an image search for her name, you can see that she really isn’t somebody who should be judging other people’s appearances.

  27. Anonymous says:

That dress is still ugly regardless…

  28. DonnaJ says:

    I agree.

  29. KissKiss says:

She has big girls, but she’s far from being a big girl. She’s a beautiful woman, no matter what she wears.

  30. Helen says:

I did! and you were absolutely right! she’s one ugly woman!

  31. sweet kiddo says:

ish ..she should start to judge herself before critisizing others
