Emma Watson Was Hollywood's Highest Paid Female In 2009

Vanity Fair came out with their list of Hollywood's top earners of 2009. They have an "unscientific" formula for determining who made how much, you can check it out here. Topping the female list is Emma Watson, with $30 million - she scored $15 million each for the two final Harry Potter movies. The totals aren't necessarily who makes the most per movie - just who brought in the most $$ in '09.

4. Katherine Heigl, actress ($24million)
5. Reese Witherspoon, actress ($21million)

8. Sandra Bullock, actress ($20million)
9. Kristen Stewart , actress ($16million)

1. Michael Bay, producer-director ($125 million)
2. Steven Spielberg, producer-director ($85 million)
3. Roland Emmerich, producer-director ($70 million)
4. James Cameron, producer-director ($50 million)
5. Todd Phillips, director ($44 million)
6. Daniel Radcliffe, actor ($41 million)
7. Ben Stiller, actor ($40 million)
8. Tom Hanks, actor ($36 million)

It's kinda cool to see how much some of the actors (and directors) get paid for each movie and what they earn "on the back end" as well. For the full list of the top 40 - see the article here.
I cannot WAIT for 'The Deathly Hallows' premieres and promotional appearances to start - Emma always looks so amazing on the red carpet. But that's not until NOVEMBER! Sigh.

Why men earn more then women?

I was going to say that maybe it's because it's for different jobs, but then I noticed that the male actors - even if they made less than the directors/producers - still earned more than their female counterparts.
Then again, maybe it's because the actors listed have been in the industry longer?

They do earn more, in most cases, but if you look at the VF article - it breaks down what they earned for each thing this year - so depending on what the person did movie-wise in 2009, determined their total.
Look at how much higher the figures are for the men. That is so messed up, what is wrong with the world?
I understand reasons why athelets and celebrities in general get paid highly. But I honestly think that all of them are grossly overpaid. Grossly. Most, if not all, are not even actors or actresses. They are mere average to below average entertainers, nothing more. Is Ben Stiller or Jolie actors in a true sense of this word??! No Way!

Then again, how many people want to see real acting? Most people just want to see something pretty and shiny. I don't begrudge actors that do that kind of work just to keep drawing a paycheck.
