Howard Stern Confirms ‘American Idol’ Rumors

On his radio show this morning, Howard Stern confirmed the rumors of his considering taking over for Simon Cowell on ‘American Idol’ – if the price is right.

“There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that f—ing karaoke contest,” Stern said.

He says they’d have to pay him a lot of money, considering he currently makes $100 million per year!

“It might be possible, we’ll see,” he said, adding: “They’d have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough.”

He definitely thinks he has what it takes to fill Simon’s shoes:

“If I do say do myself, I can’t imagine anyone else but me replacing (Cowell),” Stern said. “I mean, I don’t know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who’s not afraid to speak their mind?”

He has a valid point. But, it would probably mean he would have to get used to toning down his language and whatnot for network television. He’s had “free reign” for so long, I bet it’d be a little difficult at first.

Howard actually can be more funny than people who never actually listen to him think. He could be great, but he’s really anti-social, which is the part I don’t understand here…

  2. Adam says:

It’s funny that everyone who says they wont watch if he were to be a judge, thats what everyone said with ellen. I know peopl would be curious. and it’s about singing not about who the judge is. America picks in the end

Come on people. Howard Stern is doing exactly what it takes to bring home the bacon. Yes, he is nasty, but smart. Smart enough to know that being nasty brings home 100 mil a year. Like Manimal said, for over 100 mil a year, im sure he would tone it down.

  4. katgib13 says:

He’s nasty. I wish they’d get Neil Patrick Harris. I thought he was fabulous!

  5. Linda123 says:

FOX knows that people will be running away from “Idol” after Simon leaves so they wanted somebody controversial to take his place. Howard is all wrong for “Idol”. He would keep people away. I doubt he could go five seconds without cursing or making a sex joke.

  6. lovebug66 says:

He is very nasty….I won’t be watching! :P

  7. DonnaJ says:

I hope he takes Simon’s place. It may be the only thing that makes me tune in…maybe.

  8. Manimal says:

For more than $100,000,000.00 a year, I think he could figure out how to tone it down.

  9. dyinggiraffe says:

I just can’t imagine why Fox would want him. American Idol is so “family friendly.”

  10. Nicole says:

I don’t think I’d watch if he took Simons’ place! Yes- Neil Patrick Harris was a great guest judge, he should take Simon’s place!

howard stern is nasty, and yet neil patrick harris, who has been on stern’s show and talked about every x-rated subject imaginable, isn’t? sounds to me like a lot of people who don’t want stern on AI don’t actually know anything about his show. he spends more time talking about the latest episode of “the bachelor” than he does swearing.

also, the man is a professional broadcaster. he knows how to control his language.

  12. Scruffy says:

Why would any radio presenter get paid $10 million a year???? Thats insane. He could then at least get a haircut. I don’t care of AI, only the auditions part cause its funny.
