This is what’s happening, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello: Katherine Heigl and ABC have finally agreed to part ways. Rather than wait until the end of the season, however, Katherine isn’t even coming back to film the final five episodes of the season. She is DONE and Izzie’s last episode has already aired.
A source within the actress’ camp claims Heigl “was at home and ready to return to work.” Another insider, however, “insists it’s much more complicated than that.”
The source adds that talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season.
Not only did Katherine quit ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ she also lost her publicist, according to Ausiello, so there’s no official statement from her rep.
It’s too bad they couldn’t find a way to give Izzie an actual farewell, although I don’t think it’s any surprise that Katherine’s leaving the show. What do you think, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans: is this a good development? Do you even care at this point?
These pictures include ones taken just a few days ago (showing Katherine as a brunette) and ones from last November, when she was still blonde. I have to say, I prefer her as a blonde. What about you?

I think it’s the show more than anything. How many people have left the show? Washington, Walsh, George, Hahn, Knight, Heigl, etc. . . – It’s the show’s way or the highway. Plus that show is so ridiculous now. I loved it back in the day – but I’m tired of the way they are mutilating every relationship and all it tries to say is career’s are more important than family or love – blah.
i watch the show and it never crosses my mind that the character Izzy isn’t there anymore … it has most certainly moved on without her
Not a shocker. She wanted out of that show for a long time, way before she even adopted her baby.

I will assume that Katherine’s last episode has already aired. Alex refused to take her back. I’m pretty sure Izzy got another job. The way it ended made it easy for Katherine to stay or go. Her child had nothing to do with leaving. She wanted to leave for a long time and made that very clear.

I find the show much better without her! I did think she was very good in the first couple of seasons but ever since that drama started and the way she behaved…i think Greys will be just fine without her!

but anyway, i’ve been over greys for awhile. i’m glad shes moving on. i hear shes a pain to work with.
It actually saddens me that she decided to opt out 5 episodes early. It sure as hell could have been a jaw dropping finale with those superb writers. I’ll miss her even if she’s a complete bitch in real life. <3 R.I.P. Izzie!

she most definately looks better as a blonde than a brunette. hate the dark hair on her. i wonder if that’s part of the reason why they let her go???? i’m sure she was giving them a hard time and doing whatever she can to get out of the contract early.

I think Shelley Long needs to give her a call..granted cheers was very different from Grey’s but she is burning bridges all over the place and she’s not better than grey’s I’m sorry. I don’t like the show anymore but for the first two seasons I loved her and the way she has acted has been horrible with her tv show and film career. oh and dye your hair back!
We should also bear in mind that she has recently adopted a child…I’m sure her priorities have changed…

I love her, shes a great actress and really funny. But when you sign a contract you should have to uphold it. No matter what. That’s what contracts are for, if you agree to them then you should have to follow them or pay the “price” for breaking them. Everyone else in the world has to, and actors are no different.
