A weight loss company has reached out to Gabourey Sidibe and asked her to become their sponsor. TMZ obtained the letter sent from AcaiSupply.com where it’s claimed that obesity is a “major epidemic” in the US. They want to help her fight what they call “this terrible affliction” by giving her a year’s worth of their product.
“The only way you can reach your goal of someday winning that Oscar is by being active, fit, and most of all, healthy!”
Should companies be reaching out to women telling them they need help with their weight? Or is that too forward and obnoxious? Perhaps Gabourey isn’t looking for any weight loss assistance.
What do you think about what they did?

i think its refreshing to see a normal person like u and me achieve wat she has and its damn rude of that company to bother her with that…
Being obese she will suffer from high blood pressure, high colesterol, Type II diabetes, and premature strokes. If she wants to live she will take the offer and lose weight. Obese people are not healthy!
For Pete’s sake she knows she is unhealthy! Does she need the entire world to tell her so especially coming from people who don’t give a rat’s ass about her health but would rather make billions by mocking her on and on. After Stern now it’s their turn! I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the poor girl got a nervous breakdown… Everyone is mocking her and the fact that she is famous it’s even worse…
Amen Rita! Everyone get off Gabby’s back! Obese people know they are obese, they don’t need you telling them. I hope this poor girl gets outta this business before they cause her a breakdown.
Yes the company is rude with the way they went about announcing this. Gabourey may or may not be experiencing negative health affects due to her weight (at this time). Sometimes obesity doesn’t show any negative effects (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease) until years later. If this is happening to her, she may be in denial that her weight is hurting her. She has an eating disorder. Nobody can convince me otherwise. NOBODY (that has a healthy relationship with food) wants to be that large. I know because I’ve lived it. It’s uncomfortable in all ways (physically, emotionally). I have binge eating disorder which is just as strong as any other eating disorder, but less commonly diagnosed. She needs mental therapy in order to beat it. She may have given up and resolved to trying to live her life happy the way she is, but it doesn’t have to be like that. There is hope. Again, I know because I’ve lived it. I hope she loses weight but only for her health and happiness. She doesn’t need to become a size 2, she just needs to arrive at her body’s chosen healthy weight.
Gabourey needs to lose weight for the sake of her health. Acai berries are under discussion about affectiveness. Now if Weight Watchers, a thoroughly reputable organization, had asked her to represent it, that would be different.
We don’t know whether Gabourey wants to lose weight, but under all those layers of fat there may be a very attractive, normal-sized woman just screaming to get out.
The company is only doint it for publicity. They couldn’t care less about her weight or health.
I think it’s interesting how we’re okay with smokers being publicly denounced and shamed for their unhealthy habits, but not people who are obese. Statistically speaking, obesity is causing more deaths than tobacco is.
Wow I would be so humililated if I was her and a company came after me like that! If she wants to lose weight then that’s her business and she can figure it out privately, she doesn’t need some company trying to make it the whole world’s business.
I’m a little torn on stuff like this…On one side, I think that pubicly stating that someone is overweight and basically needs some sort of corporate “intervention” is insulting and rude. However, I do think that stating that she doesn’t need some sort of help with her weight is also incorrect.
An obese person in the public eye does paint a picture (for some people) that this is a healthy way to live, which it is not. She’s so young and talented, but I just hate the fact that we’re all supposed to start accepting morbid obesity as “the norm” for American society. I am just hoping she gets motivated to get healthy, because no endorsement deal will make someone alter their lifestyle permanently. It has to be her choice.
To Gabourey: There’s no need to have a breakdown. You may not be able to control how the world treats you but one thing you can control is how you’d choose to react to them. Sure there may be rude people calling you fat or predators like acaisupply.com who can’t wait to make money of you but it’s up to you how you’ll take this. You can either take up the challenge and lose weight, you can ignore them and do nothing or you can go to battle with each and every critic who comments about your appearance. For the sake of you happiness and well being I can suggest which option is best but I’ll keep that to myself because in the end, how you want to live your life is up to you– but whatever you choose you have to be ready to face the consequences.
There is a middle ground, you know. It’s not about being skinny. It’s just about getting into a healthy range, eating better and being active. I’m pretty sure she’d feel better after losing 50 pounds at the very least.
She is talented and beautiful, but let’s not fool ourselves, she is unhealthy. Telling someone they need to lose weight does not equate to them having to become morbidly thin either. She just needs to get healthy, take the lead from Queen Latifah.
I think the worst part about it is that they said that in order to get the Oscar, she must lose weight…what?
It was rude the way they went about doing it. They could have just asked her if she was interested in trying their product and being their spokesperson but the way they did is very rude. There is no doubt that she needs to loose weight. I don’t care how comfortable and happy she is with her body, she needs to loose weight. She is not healthy.
Utterly disgusting and presumptuous on the company’s part. Why? because they could care less about this girl’s health or future or even her as a person. It’s a company. At the end of the day, the only thing they care about is the almighty dollar.
Aside from that, how many times do we Americans need to be told the ONLY healthy way to lose weight is to change your eating habits and exercise? It’s not rocket science.
Well, the way they went about it wasn’t the best way. I think they were just trying to make a convincing business pitch ( you need to lose weight, we can help you) but managed to come across very rude. As far as the Oscar comment, I think they were just saying that staying at her current size would damage her health to such a degree that she wouldn’t be able to have a proper longterm acting career. And there’s also the danger of getting typecast.
I just wish she’d take time to settle her weight and get healthy, not skinny but a normal, healthy size.
I think it’s rude that they reached out to her. But I’m sure she’s painfully aware of how overweight she is, so i hope this wasn’t a huge shock to her.
I have to agree that maybe its overstepping a boundary, but regardless, she is MASSIVE and there is no way she will survive LIFE that large! I really do adore her acting. I’m afraid if people always support her, she may have no motivation to lose the weight. And then it will be a Fox News story about how they had to find a stretcher large enough to get her out of her house when she got sick. It sounds awful but read the news. She needs help!
Neither are underweight people which is most of Hollywood. Same difference.
True. Somebody’s in denial. But maybe she wants to die fat and happy instead of skinny and hungry.
She has a pretty face.

So true!
It’s rude! Yes she is overweight and that can´t be healthy. But she seems like a smart woman who will ask for help if she needs it. Reaching out to someone like that is like pointing at a stranger on the street, screaming “FATTY!”
It would have been a whole lot nicer if TMZ hadn’t publicized the letter, or if the company had decided not to go public until after she signed on as a spokesperson.
I think it would be great to see her lose weight….she is a pretty girl and seem to have a sweet personality, but I don’t think the company gives a crap about her – they have dollar signs in their eyes – its all about the money.
i think Gabby is very talented and she has an amazing personality but she is morbidly obese and needs to lose weight for health reasons. That said, those anorexic models/starlets are just as bad. I also find it tacky for the company to go about it the way they did.
This is pretty rude. But if she did lose weight on a plan I’m sure the company would become very popular. To my knowledge the woman is happy with her size and hates to exercise so I’m not sure this is ever going to happen.
I feel sorry for her. It’s like in high school when everyone picks on the underdog. Not cool.
Those people are definitely being obnoxious. I may not agree with people who say she’s fine the way she is, but at this point i’m sure she’s aware of what people might think.
In this condition it is quite obvious that the body weight will increase. This result in obesity and their bodies become fluffy. But who want to have a tummy or to look fat. Everyone wants to look smart and slim. …
It’s extremely rude. No matter how big the person is there are 2 things you don’t talk about women without getting them offended: weight and age. AND to make it as public as they did is just classless. This company doesn’t care about her or her weight loss but rather just getting their name out there.
So very rude & to say that’s the only way she’ll get an Oscar. I hope Gabby kicks them to the curb!
