Angelina Jolie is preparing to play Cleopatra in the big screen. It was one of the late Elizabeth Taylor’s most famous roles.
“My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth’s. We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, because she really wasn’t. Even this idea of her having many lovers – it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn’t a great beauty.”
We first heard about this project a while ago (much to some people’s dismay), so I’m glad to hear they’re making progress! I’m excited to see Angelina as Cleopatra. How about you?

Cleopatra wasn’t “BLACK”, dumbass!!…That’s a myth!…Archeological studies have shown that she was either Greek or North-African descent, so no one ethicity or phisical attribute can be confirmed! Angelina is a GODDESS, and we are lucky that she’s agreed to play her!

Kay, chillax. What Stone is trying to point out is that sense you wrote that Cleopatra was of Northern African descent, maybe a more darker woman should be playing the part. Hollywood has always use white women to play this woman and maybe they should look at Jessica Alba, Zoe, and a list of other actresses who are more olive or darker . Don’t get me wrong Angelina would be great in this role, I love her.

Cleopatra was a descendant of one of Alexander the Great’s generals. She is therefore Macedonian, from the Mediterranean, assumably with an olive complexion. And as for pretty… whether you think Jolie is pretty or not doesn’t matter – Cleopatra probably wasn’t; there are coins showing her as a rather plain woman with a big nose.
I just hope it’s good; I doubt that hinges on Jolie’s performance and has more to do with the script and director.
