Paula Deen Gets More Flack From Anthony Bourdain

Now that Paula Deen has announced that she has Type 2 diabetes, one of her most vocal critics, Anthony Bourdain, is speaking out. He tweeted:

Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later.

Ouch. But then he clarified:

For the record: Never called anybody a “diabetic scam artist”. TMZ’s words. Not mine.

In an interview with Eater, Anthony was asked what he thought about Paula’s (then upcoming) announcement:

I feel bad [about her diabetes diagnosis]…She’s been looking for ways to position herself. Is she really going to be selling the cure now? Or will she back off for a decent interval? I take no pleasure in it. There ain’t nothing funny about Diabetes…

When your signature dish is hamburger in between a doughnut, and you’ve been cheerfully selling this stuff knowing all along that you’ve got Type 2 Diabetes… It’s in bad taste if nothing else. How long has she known? I suspect a very long time…

The only thing “off” about Anthony’s prediction was that he didn’t think Paula would say how long she’s been diagnosed (she did say she was diagnosed three years ago). Something tells me Paula’s going to take the high road and just ignore Anthony this time.

i don’t think he’s speaking out about her announcement of being diabetic as much as he is speaking our about her partnership with the drug company that distributes diabetic medication and/or supplies.
