Brooke Shields’ mother, Teri Shields, has died at the age of 79 after a long illness. She had also reportedly been suffering from dementia. Teri was the one who started Brooke’s career in the entertainment industry with an Ivory Soap commercial when Brooke was just 11 months old.
Teri was Brooke’s manager for years and took some heat for two controversial gigs she had her underage daughter doing: a role in the film ‘Pretty Baby’ where Brooke played a teenage prostitute and had a nude scene and a controversial Calvin Klein commercial where Brooke said, “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins.”
The relationship between Brooke and Teri had become pretty strained by 1994, when Brooke said she was the “caretaker” and had grown up in an alcoholic household. Teri reportedly said (for the same story) that she could no longer talk about Brooke’s professional plans (translation: she was no longer Brooke’s manager), so the interviewer needed to ask Brooke about her career plans. Teri then added: “Brookie doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
If these pictures of Teri and Brooke with Brooke’s daughters from 2009 are any indication, it looks like they had patched things up at least somewhat. My condolences go out to Brooke and her family.
