Rihanna isn’t just lying around and relaxing in her native Barbados for the holidays. She’s giving back, too. Rihanna donated $1.75 million to a Bridgetown’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The gift was given in memory of her grandmother, who passed away last summer. Rihanna explained in a statement:
“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program. I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives, or at least extend them.”
The hospital will name its cancer treatment center after Rihanna’s late grandmother. It will be called the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. Rihanna opened up about her grandmother.
“She was a well-rounded woman. She taught me a lot about forgiveness, loving my enemies, spirituality [and] strength as a woman.”
What a wonderful thing to do and perfect for the holidays!
